Carrie M. Gilb, 84

Funeral services for Carrie M. Gilb are scheduled for Thursday, November 18, 1999 at 11am at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove, MN. Carrie passed away at her home in Walnut Grove on Saturday, November 13, 1999 at the age of 84. A complete obituary will be published next week.

Amanda “Billy” Blilie, 93

Amanda M. “Betty” (nee Lau) age 93 of Roseville, formerly of Tracy, MN passed away on November 10, 1999. Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. at Roseville Memorial Chapel in Roseville. Interment was at Roselawn Cemetery on Tuesday, November 16, 1999.

Amanda volunteered as a Traveler's Aid at the Mpls/St. Paul Airport for 20 years. She received the WCCO Good Neighbor Award in 1982. She was an avid golfer and member of Midland Hills golf course. She was the former owner of Dad's Cookie Company.

She was preceded in death by her husband William O. on August 9, 1989; sister Cora Paulson; brothers Ewald and Albert Lau.

Amanda is survived by her sister Edna Robinson and brother Milton Lau; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Malcolm Campbell, 79

Malcolm Kay Campbell was born on September 6, 1925 in Tracy, MN to Charles and Agnes (Shelley) Campbell. He graduated from Tracy High School where he set a state record in track, and enlisted in the Navy, where he served as a tail gunner with the 117th Squadron from 1943-1946. Mike earned several medals including two Purple Hearts, Distinguished Flying Cross and World War II Victory Medal.

Mike was united in marriage to Helen Pivonka on December 7, 1958. Mike taught sales in Detroit Lakes and did motivational speaking until his retirement.

Mike was an active member of AA, the DAV and the Methodist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, golfing, riding bike, bird watching, watching planes and spending time on the Internet.

Mike passed away on November 12, 1999 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Mike is survived by his wife, Helen, children Jo Ellen (Sonny) Crooks, Shelley (Cliff) Wessels, Sheila Wessels, Michael Campbell, Peggy (Walter) Manning, Maryann Campbell, Daniel (Karen) Campbell; nine grandchildren; stepmother Stella Campbell; sister Dorothy (Trevor) Davis; and cousin Alvin Shelley.

His mother, father, and brother Douglas preceded him in death.

Private interment at Fr. Snelling National Cemetery.

Memorials preferred to American Diabetes Association.

Bernard Leiferman, 78

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 16, 1999 for Bernard E. Leiferman at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove, MN. Officiant was Pastor Paul Carlson. Honorary casket bearers were his beloved grandsons Nathan Leiferman, Nicholas Leiferman, Evan Holmes and Greg Holmes.

Casket bearers were Kermit Kristenson, Alfred Sell, Robert Syverson, Al Farber, Rod Gertner, Marvin Kleven, Jeff Bertschi and Don West.

Bernard E. Leiferman was born at Beauford Township, Blue Earth County, MN on September 6, 1921, the son of George and Anna (Samuelson) Leiferman. The family lived in the Mapleton area until May 12, 1942 when Bernie entered the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling, his basic training was at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He trained for Ski Troops at Camp Carson and Camp Hale, Colorado. He went to Fort Ord, California in July of 1943 then to the Aleutian Isles in November of 1943, he returned to the U.S. and in February of 1944 went to the European Theatre. Bernie was discharged at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin on November 3, 1945. When he returned home he worked for Solie Sales and Frank Brothers Elevator.

He was united in marriage on June 9, 147 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Westbrook, MN to Algene Hanson, and they made their home in Mapleton, MN until March, 1950 when the couple moved to the Walnut Grove area where they farmed. He was the DeKalb seed salesman from 1960 until the present time.

He was a member of English Lutheran Church, the Legion, Lions Club and Community Club in Walnut Grove and the Tracy V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and watching sports on T.V. Bernie also coached a softball team of young men and made a big impact on their lives.

Bernie entered the V.A. Hospital in the Twin Cities on May 3, 1999, and later was transferred to the V.A. Hospital in St. Cloud on July 12, 1999, where he passed away on November 13.

He is survived by his wife Algene, of Walnut Grove; one son Alan of Owatonna, MN; one daughter Sheryl and husband Tom Holmes of Janesville, MN; four grandsons, Nathan and Nicholas Leiferman, Evan and Greg Holmes; one brother Aloysius of Mapleton, MN; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son Gale in October 1969; one brother and five sisters.

Interment was at the Walnut Grove City Cemetery with Jacobson Funeral Service of Walnut Grove handling arrangements.

Arnold D. Johnson, 53

Funeral services are scheduled for Arnold D. Johnson on Thursday, November 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 17 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 5 p.m

Arnold Dale Johnson was born November 2, 1946 to Dale and Eunice (Julien) Johnson in Lincoln County, Tyler, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and graduated from Balaton High School in 1964.

Following high school, Arnie enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for approximately 17 years. He lived most of his life in Balaton, where he was employed by UBC, then later at Hemmingsen Construction in Tracy before becoming self-employed as a carpenter.

Arnie was very proud of his military service, and was an active member of the Balaton American Legion Post. He enjoyed reading American History, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Arnie died November 15, 1999 at his home in Balaton at the age of 53.

Survivors include his parents, Dale and Evelyn Johnson, Balaton, MN; two daughters, Jeannette and husband Jon Myrvik of Cottonwood, MN; Sgt. Janet Johnson of Fort Knox, KY; three granddaughters, Jenna Myrvik, Briana and Brittney Johnson, one grandson, Joshua Myrvik; two brothers, Ray Johnson and wife Linda, New Brighton, MN; Clifford Johnson of Balaton, MN; four sisters, Neva (Terry) Parris, Morgan, MN; Pam (Bob) Wendland, New Ulm, MN; Barb (Mark) Swenson, Balaton, MN Linda Johnson, Marshall, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his mother, Eunice, and his grandparents.
