Adele C. Howe, 82

Funeral services were held for Adele C. Howe on Monday, December 27, 1999 at Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy. Ministers were Rev. Stephen Olson and Rev. Marlene Elmstrom. Organist was Eileen Schimming with Leigh Schimming as soloist.

Casket bearers Lewellyn Johnson, Steve Johnson, James Kerr, Donald Olson, Chet Erickson, John Moon and Bernard Pecha.

Adele Christine Helgeson Howe was born August 8, 1917 in Monroe Township of Lyon County, Minnesota to Ole and Clara (Helleson) Helgeson. Adele was baptized September 2, 1917 and reaffirmed her faith in the Rite of Confirmation on June 7, 1931 by Rev. U.L. Larson. She attended District 88 and graduated from Tracy High School in 1935.

Adele was united in marriage to Kenneth D. Howe on February 16, 1940 by Rev. Scriver Peterson at Tracy. They made their home in Tracy.

Adele was always active in church, Sunday School and the women's groups, and when Hoiland congregation merged with Tracy Lutheran, she continued being active in the Tracy Lutheran Church Women, circles, Altar Guild, and Do-Days in making quilts for Lutheran World Relief.

She enjoyed delivering bulletins to the shut-ins and helped the elderly when needed. She was also a V.F.W. Auxiliary member.

In August 1997, Adele and Ken sold their home and moved to Marshall to live.

Adele died on Thursday, December 23, 1999 at the Weiner Memorial Nursing Home in Marshall.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth of Marshall; two sons and their wives, Kenneth Dean and Janet of Maple Grove, MN and Dale and Carol of Marshall, MN; four grandchildren, Michael, David, Sarah and Jennifer Howe; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Joshua and Nathanial; one brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Luella Helgeson of Tracy; nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ingeborg and Olga.

Interment was at Hoiland Cemetery. Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy was in charge of arrangements.

The family requests that memorials be given to the Tracy Lutheran Building Fund.

Joseph P. Polman, 56

Services for Joseph P. Polman were held on Monday, December 27, 1999 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, MN.

Joseph was born Dec. 1, 1943 in Marshall to Henry and Julia (Louwagie) Polman. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Marshall. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era.

Joseph and Barb Gregoire were married Aug. 3, 1963, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, MN. He was a salesman with an office telephone equipment company. He enjoyed golf and was active for 18 years in the Hastings A.A.

Mr. Polman died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999 at his home.

Survivors include his wife; mother; daughters, Dawn of Inver Grove Heights, Carrie Krebs of Moorhead and Bonnie of Minneapolis; sisters, Irma Vroman of Marshall, Judy VanDeWiele of Tracy, Joanne McChesney of Elk River, Joyce Leach of Marshall; brother, Henry Jr. of Marshall, Gerald of Cold Springs, Steve of Alexandria, Mike of St. Louis, MO and Jeff of Willmar; two granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister.

Clarence L. Tisue, 55

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. for Clarence L. Tisue of Tracy, at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. Officiant was Rev. Homer Dobson with Melissa Sahlstrom as pianist and Mary Schmidt as soloist.

Casket bearers were Harvey Rykhus, Jim Quigley, Alan Grunden, Ryan Grunden, Brandon Rykhus, Jarad Rykhus and Michael Grunden.

Clarence Lloyd Tisue was born December 26, 1944 in Tracy, MN, Lyon County, to Lloyd and Susan (Downing) Tisue. He attended schools in Tracy, Lamberton and Garvin.

As a young man he enjoyed swimming, skating and walking. Clarence lived his whole life in Tracy and had gone to Sunday School at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, where he was a member. He worked at the DAC in Marshall until failing health forced him to retire.

Puzzles, fishing and playing his guitar were among his hobbies, but he had a very special place in his heart and his life for his great niece and great nephew.

Clarence is survived by two brothers, Alvin and Floyd; three sisters, Mae and her husband Jim Quigley, Ina and her husband Harvey Rykhus, and Mary and her husband Alan Grunden, all of Tracy, MN; three nieces, Krista, Karrie and Jamie; four nephews, Brandon, Jarad, Michael and Ryan; a very special great niece Kelsey; a very special great nephew, Dylan and many friends throughout the community.

His grandparents and his parents preceded him in death.

Interment was at the Tracy City Cemetery with Almlie Funeral Home handling arrangements.

Leland Holmberg, 83

Funeral services will be held for Leland Holmberg, 83, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca, MN on Thurs., Dec. 30, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Joy Armstrong will be officiating. Organist is Sherri Isder. Special music by Pixie Christiansen and Paul Holmberg. Pallbearers are George Opdahl, Delvin Gaul, Lee Holmberg, Daniel Holmberg, Gary Olson and Harvey Larson. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren and their spouses. Interment will be at Slayton Memorial Gardens in Slayton, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is handling the arrangements.

Lee Holmberg was born on January 3, 1916 on a farm in Lime Lake Township in Murray County, MN near Avoca to John and Hulda Nelson Holmberg. He was baptized and confirmed at Lime Lake Lutheran Church at Avoca. Lee grew up on the family farm and attended country school, Slayton High School then attended the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture, graduating in 1936. On January 8, 1946, he and Phyllis Olson were married at Lime Lake Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in Lime Lake Township near Avoca for many years and raised their children. They continued to live on the farm until February 23, 1999. Due to failing health, Lee entered the Slayton Manor and later Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda on June 16, 1999. He passed away at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda on December 26, 1999 at the age of 83. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Avoca, served on the church council and was an usher for many years. Lee was also on the Lime Lake Township Board for 35 years where he served as supervisor. His favorite pastimes included softball, reading, all sports and being an avid sportsman, spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis of Fulda; three children and their spouses, Sheila and Richard Helleson of Tracy, Michael and Sally Holmberg of Pleasant Hill, IA and Gail and Thomas Pecht of Des Moines, IA; five grandchildren, Cheryl McDonnell, Wade Helleson, Jennifer Anderson, Daniel Holmberg, and Michael Holmberg; one sister, Lucille Holmberg of Minneapolis, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Hattie Gladen and Edith Stoeckman; five brothers, Rudy, Loren, Glenn, Willard and John Holmberg.

Vernon G. Hansen, 69

Funeral services were held for Vernon G. Hansen, 69, of Westbrook on Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at Grace Lutheran Church, Westbrook, Minnesota.

Officiating was Rev. Sue Seiffert and Rev. William Klavetter. Organist was Betty Rupp and vocalists were his grandchildren. Instrumentalist was Erica Huls.

Honorary casket bearers were his grandchildren. Casket bearers were Rev. Jeff Hansen, Mark Hansen, Jens Hansen, Daniel Hansen, Wayne Hansen and Matthew Pyles.

Military honors were by the Westbrook American Legion and VFW Post #5098

Interment was held at the Westbrook Cemetery, Westbrook, MN. Arrangements were handled by Almlie Funeral Home, Westbrook, MN.

Vernon George (Rasty) Hansen was born January 24, 1930 to Jens H. and Edna Louise (Shepard) Hansen in Springfield township, Cottonwood County, MN. He received his education attending country school. Vernon was baptized and confirmed, along with other family members in 1946 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Windom, MN.

Prior to military duty, he remained on the family farm with his parents. From 1951 to 1953, Vernon served in the Army, receiving his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and later being stationed in Germany.

On June 25, 1955, he and Anne Rieke Huls were married at Grace Lutheran Church, Westbrook, MN. Following their marriage, they farmed in Cottonwood County until 1971 when they purchased a farm in Lincoln County near Canby, MN. He retired from farming in 1989, and moved to Westbrook, MN, where he continued to make his home until the time of his death on December 24, 1999. He was 69 years old.

Hunting and fishing were among Vernon's favorite leisure activities.

He is survived by his wife, Anne; one step-son, LeRoy Huls and wife Bev, Belle Plaine, MN; one daughter, Cindy Lou Glasser and husband Paul, Watertown, MN; 7 grandchildren, Cheri Lynn Glasser, Reid Glasser, Steven Glasser, Brian Glasser, Erica Huls, Ryan Huls, Anna Huls; three brothers and their spouses, Richard and Daisy Hansen, Canby, MN, Robert and Carol Hansen, Belgrade, MN, Donald and Anna Marie Hansen, Morris, MN; one sister, Jeanie Pyles and husband Rick of Middlebourne, West Virginia; one sister-in-law, Sylvia Hansen; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
