Steph Welvaert, Heidi Peterson are 212 all-conference picks

Stephanie Welvaert and Heidi Peterson have made the 212 Conference 1999 All-Conference Volleyball Team while Maria Ankrum was given honorable mention status.

Welvaert, a senior, had 187 attacks in 21 conference games that resulted in 73 kills for an average of 3.5 kills per game and a kill percentage of 39%. While serving in 82 attempts she had 53 good serves (64.6%) and registered 13 aces ( .6 per game). She also had five ace blocks.

Peterson, a junior, in 23 conference games had 12 attacks with four kills. She made 94 attempts while serving with 74 being good (78.7%) and 13 aces (.6 per game). She had 210 kill assists and 11 ace blocks.

Maria Ankrum, a sophomore, in 23 conference games had 140 attacks with 43 kills for a kill percentage of 30.7% and had 116 serving attempts with 85 being good (73.3 %) and resulted in 15 aces (.7 per game). She also had three ace blocks.


 

Goettig, Goltz are Panther football statistics leaders

The Tracy-Milroy/Balaton Football Team finished third in the conference in team offense with 1,507 yards or an average of 301.4 per game. MACCRAY led with 1,629 yards and an average of 325.8 per game. T-M/B was also third in team defense with 1,430 yards allowed (286 per game). BOLD was the leader with 1,120 yards allowed (224 per game).

Derek Rignell, Panther junior quarterback, was fourth in the conference in passing as he hit 31 of 68 (45.6%) for 428 yards. Damman of MACCRAY led with 74 of 125 for 1,019 yards.

Aaron Goettig, Panther junior, was third with 100 attempts for 624 yards. Goettig and Junior Brady Schmidt (21 carries, 130 yards) tied for second in the conference with 6.2 yards per carry.

Trent Jorgenson of YME averaged 7.2 yards a carry, with 409 yards in 56 attempts.

Jeremy Goltz had 15 catches for 227 yards. Cory Schmidt had six catches for 103 yards.

Goltz led the conference in pass interceptions with six while Derek Rignell was seventh with two interceptions. Goettig led the conference in scoring with 44 points; Rignell was fifth with 32 and Goltz tenth with 21.

Justin Morin was fifth in the conference in punting with 15 punts for 497 yards for an average of 33.1 per punt. Swenson of MACCRAY led with a 35.8 average. Goettig led the conference in tackles with 20 unassisted tackles and 52 assists for 92 points.

Aaron Goettig, Jeremy Goltz, Ben Lightfoot and Justin Morin were Panthers named to the All-Conference Team.


Stephanie Welvaert earns coaches' all-state honors

Stephanie Welvaert, Panther senior, capped off a tremendously successful high school volleyball career last week by being named to the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association All-State Team.

Welvaert's outstanding volleyball career began in her freshman year when she was named to the All-Tournament team in 1995. That year the Panthers landed four players on the All-tournament team as they won the State Class A Volleyball championship. Nadine Brandt, Kris DeRuyck and Alyssa Ladehoff were the other Panthers named. In that year there were only two classes in Minnesota High School Volleyball.

Welvaert's career stats are as follows: While serving she was 1,069 of 1,224 with 216 aces. She received 1,614 serves, registered 822 digs, had 1,145 kills and 73 blocks.

This season she was 254 of 311 serving and had 58 aces. She received 559 serves and had 298 digs. She registered 295 kills and had 22 blocks.

This fall, in addition to being named to the Coaches All-State Team, Welvaert has been given honorable mention on the Pioneer Press All-State Team and has been named to the 212 All-Conference Team.
