LaWayne F. Enke, 76

Memorial services were held Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Calvary Baptist Church in St. Cloud for LaWayne F. Enke, who died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000 at his home from complications from cancer.

LaWayne was born in Lake Benton to Forrest F. and Ruby R. (Kurth) Enke. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942-1946. Serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres of War in WWII. He married Dorothy J. Thaxton on July 19, 1947 in Tracy. He worked for J.C. Penney for 38 years retiring in 1983. The couple lived in 8 different communities including, Tracy, Albert Lea, Sioux City, IA; Macon, MO; Spencer, IA; Mankato, Wheaton, IL; and Sauk Rapids.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids American Post #254, St. Cloud VFW Post #428, Crossroads Merchant Assoc., and past member of the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife of Sauk Rapids; daughter and son, Jennifer Drum of Rock Hill, SC; Rory Enke of Laqunitas, CA and three grandchildren, Christopher Drom of San Francisco, CA; Callie Drom of Greensboro, NC; Zak Rudy of Stuarts Point, CA.

He was preceded death by his parents and one sister Jean Peterson.

Leonard Anderson, 84

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 9 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton for Leonard A. Anderson. Pastor Lee Harder officiated.

Casket bearers were Scot Schultz, Lisbeth Anderson, Darrin Diedrich, Jason Schultz, Damon Anderson, Devin Diedrich, Jeremy Schultz, Dustin Diedrich, Chad Anderson and Shawn Anderson.

Honorary casket bearers were James Kluegel, Carol Kluegel, Ed Erickson, Art Erickson, Joe Mattison and Les Mattison.

Leonard was born February 23, 1916 in Linn Grove, IA to Axel and Laura (Mattison) Anderson. Leonard attended school in Granite Falls and the family moved to the Lamberton area in the early 1930's. Leonard was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church and following the merger held his membership at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lamberton.

On February 23, 1941 he married Elizabeth Wendt at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Waterbury Township. Elizabeth died in 1981. On March 10, 1995, Leonard married Ruth Wegner in Marshall, MN. He had worked with Jim and Carol Kluegel at the Kluegel Furniture Store and Funeral Home for over 25 years, drove school bus for the Lamberton School District and drove truck for Lamberton Stockyards for many years. At one point in his career, Leonard delivered ice to many homes in the Lamberton area and for a period of time held a Minneapolis Star and Tribune rural paper route. Following retirement he still continued to drive for the Western Community, taking many people to their appointments.

Leonard enjoyed driving, play cards, playing golf and trading cars.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Anderson of Tracy; children Luetta and husband Charles Schultz of Bloomington, MN, Lois and husband Dennis Diedrich of Bloomington, MN, Keith and wife Cheryl Anderson of Eagan, MN, Kenneth and wife Marilyn Anderson of Atlanta, GA, Robin Anderson of Richfield, MN; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Scot and wife Holly Schultz, Jason and wife Heather Schultz, Jeremy Schultz, Darrin and wife Julie Diedrich, Devin and wife Tiasa Diedrich, Dustin Diedrich, Chad and wife Lisa Anderson, Shawn Anderson, Damon Anderson and Lisbeth Anderson; two great-grandchildren Alexis Anderson and Zachary Leonard Diedrich; sisters Arvella and husband Vern Halvorson of Moorhead, MN; Marlys Anderson of Mankato, MN, Ardis Gustad of Akely, MN; four step children and their spouses and families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth in 1991; a sister Leota Fester and a brother, Marstrand Anderson.

Memorial Service

A memorial service for Wilbert L. Flesner, former resident of the Milroy-Walnut Grove area will be held on Sunday, August 20 at 10:30am at the Walnut Grove Community Center.

Rev. James Rightler will conduct the service.
