Floyd Bakken, 89

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 2, 2000 for Floyd L. Bakken at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Ann Township, Cottonwood Co., MN. Pastor Paul Carlson officiated. Music was by the Rise Up Singing group.

Casket bearers were Dean Knudson, Robert Knudson, James Bakken, Luther Bakken, Paul Schmid and Ron Bakken.

Floyd L. Bakken was born on the family farm south of Walnut Grove in Ann Township. He attended rural school District #42 until the 8th grade. Floyd farmed most of his life.

He was united in marriage to Eldora (Kopperud) at Old Westbrook Church on Feb. 1, 1941 and the couple made their home in Ann Township.

He was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, he loved farming and woodworking and being with his grandchildren.

Floyd passed away on November 29, 2000 at the Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 89.

He is survived by his wife Eldora of Lamberton, two daughters Kathleen (Alan) Bakke, Forest Lake, MN, Louise (James) Wenner, Oakdale, MN; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Bakken, Walnut Grove and one sister Helen Schmid, Edina, MN; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Irene Knudson.

Interment was at St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery, Ann Twp., Cottonwood Co., MN.

Agnes Courtney, 85

Funeral services were held on Friday, December 1, 2000 at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington, MN for Agnes Effa Courtney.

Agnes died on Tuesday, November 28, 2000 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, MN.

Agnes was born on June 14, 1915 near Fulda, MN to William F. and Angie Effa Isder Leebens. Agnes graduated from the 8th grade in Fulda public schools. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Avoca, MN for many years.

She lived in southwest Minnesota her entire life. Apart from her time in Tracy, she spent the last 25 years living on a farm outside of Balaton, MN with her special friend Ronald Strom.

Agnes was a very hard worker. It seemed she always held down more than one job at a time. Her proudest accomplishment in life was working 11 years (1971-1982) and then retiring from the Swift Company in Marshall, MN. Her most recent interests were playing cards, games and participating in all activities at the nursing home. She always loved being around people, going to parades, and driving around the countryside. In her younger years, dancing, raising rabbits, gardening, crocheting and embroidery were her hobbies. Her life long interest was raising grandchildren.

Agnes is survived by Ronald Strom of Balaton, her son, Dorance Stanley Piepgras of Pascagoula, MS; her daughter, Kathryn Kay Morris of Redwood Falls, MN; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, one nephew and one daughter.

Emojean Freeburg, 74

Funeral services were held on Monday, December 4, 2000 for Emojean Freeburg at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove, MN. Pastor Terri Skildum officiated.

Casket bearers were Brian Johnson, Dean Fultz, Jim Malmberg, Jim Anderson, Peter Maguire and Jeff Farber.

Emojean Niner was born January 18, 1926 at Joliet, IL the daughter of Alice (Nietz) and Merile Niner. She received her formal education at Joliet. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital of Nursing in Joliet and shortly after that she moved to Wickenberg, AZ. While working as a nurse there she met Conrad Freeburg.

The couple was married on November 30, 1952 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Joliet, IL and soon after the couple moved to Walnut Grove, MN where they lived their entire married life.

Jean was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove and the Twentieth Century Club, the Walnut Grove Flower Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Tracy Hospital Auxiliary. She loved being with her family and traveling.

Jean passed away Friday, December 1, 2000 at the Tracy Hospital, Tracy, MN.

She is survived by five children: Mrs. Michael (Paula) White of Vista, CA, Douglas and his wife Barb Freeburg of Wauwatosa, WI, David and his wife Lori Freeburg of Walnut Grove, MN, Thomas Freeburg of Walnut Grove, MN and Mrs. Mark (Jane) Cygnet of Mission Viego, CA; six grandchildren, Chad and Michele Freeburg, Heather Freeburg, Coleman and Clayton Cygnet, Sophie White.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her husband Conrad in January of 1996.
