Last-minute TD advances Canby, Panthers close out 8-3 season

A second half Canby rally ended the Panther football team's state tournament hopes, 20-19 at Canby Friday night.
Lancers came back from a halftime 19-6 deficit to score the winning touchdown with 46 seconds remaining in the game.

"They believed they could win," said Panther Coach Gale Otto. "They have done it before and when they needed a big play on that drive they got one."

Canb, now 9-2 on the year, beat Windom in overtime by two points one week earlier. The Panthers posted an 8-3 season record and a section runner-up trophy for the third time in the last four years.

Canby travels to St. Charles Friday, to meet the Section 1AA champion.

Windom emerges from battle of state-ranked teams, Panther spikers conclude 27-2 season

The Panther volleyball season came to an abrupt end at the hands of the Renville County West Jaguars at SSU thursday night. the score in the match for the Secrtion 3AA North championship was RCW 3 Panthers 0. Game scores were 15-5, 16-14 and 15-3.

The loss ended TMB's season with a stellar 27-2 record.

The 212 Conference champion Panthers, ranked No. 1 in the last Class AA poll, had narrowly beaten RCW earlier in the season. The Jaguars were the No. 2 rated Class AA team in the state, along with Windom. Windom defeated RCW Saturday night for the Section 3AA championship.

"I have never seen that 'shell-shocked' look on all six players before," said Panther coach Katie Gervais of the Thursday night match. "The Jaguars played, what I think was their best match of the season. If we were both playing our best, I believe we would have won six out of ten matches."


Rignell, Goettig, Schmidt & Clark are all-conference

Four Panther seniors were named to the 212 Conference All-Conference football team.

They are: Derek Rignell, Aaron Goettig, Brady Schmidt and Nate Clark. Rignell, besides being named all-conference, is sharing "Back-of-the-year" honors with David Blom of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City.

The all-conference selections were posted on the 212 Conference web site this week. As of Tuesday, 212 conference volleyball picks had not been announced.
