Austin Carlson, 89

Funeral services for Austin Carlson, 89, of Tracy, formerly of the Garvin area, will be at 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 5, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tracy. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 4, with a parish rosary at 4 p.m. and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary.

Visitation will continue on Friday, at the funeral home, from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Mr. Carlson died on Thursday, December 28, 2000 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.

Jerome Herder, 58

Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 30, 2000 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea, SD for Jerome G. Herder of Sioux Falls, SD.

Jerome G. Herder, son of Gustave and Wilma (Nelson) Herder, was born November 28, 1942 in Tracy, MN. He grew up in Walnut Grove, MN and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1960.

Jerry was united in marriage with Barbara Olson in Tracy on October 7, 1961. The couple made their home in Tracy. He worked as a mechanic at Dale's Gulf Service and later at Exxon Twine Company. He then owned and operated Jerry's Gulf Service. The couple moved to Spearfish, SD in 1982. He owned and operated Herder's Tree Service there. In 1986 they moved to Madison, SD where he continued his tree service business. They later moved to Marshall, MN. In 1996 they moved to Sioux Falls SD. He was currently employed with U.S. Tobacco Company. The Herders reside at 6120 W Sioux K, Sioux Falls, SD 57106.

He attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Tea, SD.

Jerry passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at Sioux Valley Hospital from a brain aneurysm.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Barbara; one son, Jeff Herder and his wife, Karen, of Gilbert, AZ; two daughters, Kelly Brewers and her husband, Curt, of Sioux Falls, SD, Kerry Bamsey and her husband, Dan, of Tea, SD; nine grandchildren; his mother, Wilma Herder of Walnut Grove, MN; two sisters, Carol Arnt and her husband Dave of Woodbury, MN; Janice Iverson of Minnetonka, MN; one brother, Joe Herder and his wife, Melanie of Breckenridge, MN; and two sisters-in-law, Becky Thiesse and her husband, Lyle of Marshall, MN and Sandra Hull of Columbia, SC.

Interment was held at a later date due to weather conditions.

Mildred Huso, 90

Mildred Huso, age 90 of Cottonwood, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000 in the Weiner Memorial Nursing Home in Marshall. Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 in Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood with burial in the Church Cemetery.

Mildred A. Huso was born Wednesday, February 23, 1910 in Laurium, Michigan to Hans and Anna (Rykhus) Olson. She was baptized on March 13, 1910 in Laurium. After her father died in 1915 she moved with her family to the Westbrook, MN area where she attended Dovray Country School.

On November 30, 1931 she was united in marriage to Thorbjorn K. Huso in Westbrook and they moved to the Cottonwood area where she has lived since. Thorbjorn died in April of 1957. Mildred was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood, the W.E.L.C.A. and the Vallers Sewing Club. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed her two trips to Norway. She also enjoyed watching professional baseball on television.

Mildred Huso died on Saturday, December 23, 2000 in the Weiner Memorial Nursing Home in Marshall at the age of 90 years and 10 months.

She is survived by her tree sons, Thomas Huso and his wife Erma of Cottonwood, Alton Huso and his wife Carol of Cottonwood, and Lyle Huso and his wife Rose of Cottonwood; ten grandchildren, Michael Huso, K. Charles Huso, Kathryn Ostendorf, Dean Berg, David Berg, Richard Berg, Daniel Huso, Krisann Huso, Michelle Hoff and Lou Huso; 15 great-grandchildren and her brother Orville Huset and his wife Evelyn of Westbrook.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers Olaf and Herbert and her sister Alice.

Sunset Funeral Home of Wabasso handled the arrangements.

Mary E. Kosse, 98

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, December 28, 2000 for Mary E. Kosse. Msgr. Paul Evers officiated. Richard Stelter was organist with Carla VanDeWiele as cantor.

Casket bearers were Steve Buyck, Tom Kosse, Robert Scott, Chuck Scott, David Henning and Dick Henning.

Mary Ellen Kosse was born March 15, 1902 to John and Mary (Bangasser) McCoy at Tracy, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm south of Tracy, the only girl in a family of seven brothers. She attended rural schools.

Mary and Anthony Kosse were married on May 1, 1924 at St. Mary's Church. They began farming in Murray County and then moved to a farm east of Tracy where they farmed until 1965. They retired and moved into Tracy to make their home. Tony died in 1983 and Mary continued in her home until 1994 when she moved into O'Brien Court.

In September 2000, she became a resident of the Tracy Nursing Home.

Through the years Mary was a loving wife and mother and worked on the farm helping her husband with the farm work. She also cleaned the church and was employed at the Tracy Nursing Home for several years.

A member of St. Mary's Church she was active in Altar & Rosary Society, and Mission Group.

She enjoyed gardening, tatting and knitting. She also loved to cook and bake and always shared with others.

Mary died on Sunday, December 24, 2000, at the Tracy Nursing Home, at the age of 98 years.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Theresa and Bud Buyck of Tracy, Doris and Dale Scott of Garvin, Robert and Betty Kosse of Cannon Falls and Dianne and Bob Annibal of Vale, AZ; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; three sister-in-laws; Amy McCoy and Agnes Rolling both of Tracy and Irene Verstraete of Marshall; nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, daughter, LaVonne Henning, granddaughter, Jessica Henning and seven brothers preceded her in death.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Tracy, MN. Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled arrangements.

Milton Lau, 84

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000 at 1 p.m. for Milton W. Lau at Chapel at Shorehaven Towers, Oconomowoc, WI. Visitation will follow the memorial service. Mr. Lau died at the Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000.

Milton W. Lau was born February 14, 1916 in Tracy, MN to Henry Lau and Anna (Barz). He was married to Ann Dellich on February 14, 1940.

He is survived by his children Marcia (Chuck) Roth of Hartland, WI; Milton (Gloria) Lau Jr. of Tegucigalpa Honduras and Marlys (Terry) Battema of Indianapolis, IN; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Anna on may 31, 1997.
