Glen Blomquist, 85

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 for Glen R. Blomquist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN. Pastor Steven Quist officiated. Lisa Parker was organist.

Casket bearers were Tim Blomquist, John Blomquist, Leo St. Pierre, David Braaten, Carol Braaten and Ronald Pletten.

Glen R. Blomquist was born November 27, 1915 to Martin and Christina (Peterson) Blomquist in Balaton, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended country school until the 6th grade. He grew up on a farm and then moved into Balaton as a young boy and lived with his aunt Anna Peterson. As a young man, Glen and his brother Linus “rode the rails” and traveled around the Midwest.

On August 24, 1946, he and Febeolia Deslauriers were married at Balaton, MN. They had one daughter. Febeolia died in 1974.

On December 20, 1975, he and Marcella Golder were married at Windom, MN. They made their home in Balaton. Marcella died in 1994.

Glen worked in construction for Thorson Construction, as a farm hand and also had a Television and Radio Repair business in Balaton. He retired in his early 60's.

His interests included electronics, traveling and short wave radio operator.

He is survived by one daughter, Jenny Blomquist of Minneapolis, MN; step-children, Clare (Mrs. Roger) Nelson of Springfield, MN; Marie (Mrs. Lewis) Duncan of Atwater, CA; and Verne Golder of Yuba City, CA; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, both wives, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Burial was in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery with the Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton handling arrangements.

Stella Campbell, 94

Stella Campbell age 94 of Tracy, died Monday, June 25, 2001 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy.

Kenneth Grindeland, 78

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at Tracy Lutheran Church, Tracy, MN for Kenneth Grindeland. Reverend Steven Olson and Reverend Marlene Elmstrom officiated. Soloist was Heidi Miller with Richard Stelter as organist.

Casket bearers were Chad Greenfield, Brian Grindeland, Arlan Van Veidhuizen, Matthew Grindeland, Kenneth Sabin and Jeff Lorentz.

Kenneth O. Grindeland was born May 15, 1923 to Ole and Carrie (Hermo) Grindeland at Brandt, SD. He attended public schools in South Dakota and graduated from White, South Dakota high school.

Ken enlisted in the U.S. Navy in June 1944 and served in the Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged in February 1946.

On March 9, 1946, he and Mavis Schlueter were married at Montevideo, MN. Ken farmed in the Canby area in the 50's, then moved to Pipestone and worked as a police officer and did plumbing.

In 1961 Ken & Mavis moved to Tracy and established Grindeland Plumbing & Heating. In 1975 they moved to St. Paul; he worked for the State of Minnesota until retirement in 1991. They moved back to Tracy in 1982, where he continued to work for the State.

Ken was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was a member of the Tracy Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Tracy American Legion and the Tracy Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ken enjoyed woodworking, fishing, painting and spending time with his grandchildren and trips to the cabin.

He died on Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Valley View Manor in Lamberton, MN at the age of 78 years.

Ken is survived by three daughters, Joan Sabin of Minneapolis, MN, Gail and husband Keith Kropp of Walnut Grove, MN and Pam and husband Brad Brewers of Savage, MN; two sons and their wives, Ron and Kathy of Howard Lake, MN and Gary and Carrie of Tracy, MN; one sister, Gladys Capp of Porter, MN; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, wife, one granddaughter and 14 brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

Burial was at the Tracy City Cemetery with Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handling arrangements.

Ruth Veit, 93

Funeral services for Ruth Irene Veit, 93, Chelsea, were held Thursday, May 24, 2001 at Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, MN with Pastor Don Drahos officiated. Burial was in Rector Cemetery, rural Chelsea. Mrs. Veit died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, of pneumonia.

Pallbearers were Robert Veit, John Veit, Gary Veit, Paul Dickerson, Bill Chantland and Don Corcoran.

Ruth Irene Veit was born July 14, 1907, at Chelsea, the daughter of William and Hallie Villers Klenk. She attended Rector rural school. She married Cloyd Veit on Jan. 1, 1927. He preceded her in death in July 1968. She was a housewife.

She is survived by two sons, William Veit, Tracy, Minnesota and Richard Veit, Chelsea; three sisters, Dorothy Coffman, Smithville, MS, Leah Jack, Chelsea and Letty Jack, Pella; two brothers, Wesley Klenk, Cedar Rapids and Harlan Klenk, Belle Plaine; five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edmond Veit.

Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine, was in charge of arrangements.
