Betty Enger, 73

A memorial service was held for Betty Jeanne Enger on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Issaquah, WA. Betty passed away Tuesday, July 17 at her home in Issaquah.

Betty was born May 24, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN. She grew up in Tracy, MN and graduated from Tracy High School in 1946. She married Clarence Goettig on January 1, 1947. They settled in Tracy where they raised their four children. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1972, following the death of Clarence, in 1967. She married Morton Enger, December 27, 1974 in Sioux Falls. In September 2000, she moved to Issaquah to live with her daughter and family.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting, socializing, and watching the Seattle Mariners. Betty is remembered by her family and friends as a loving mother and devoted friend. Despite her physical limitations, she maintained a bubbly personality and positive attitude. She was an active member of the Issaquah Senior Center and Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Betty is survived by her loving children, Paul Goettig of Bemidji, MN, Laurel Laux of Issaquah, Lee Goettig of Duluth, MN; her five grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Betty is preceded in death by her daughter Sheryl Jeanne in 1952, and her second husband Morgon Enger in 2000.

Dorothy Herder, 77

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 23, 2001 for Dorothy Marie Herder, at English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove, MN. Rev. Paul Carlson officiated.

Active casket bearers were Armond Kaehler, Galen Kaehler, Richard Van Hecke, Darlo Kaehler, David Herder and Eugene Buyck.

Dorothy was born June 24, 1924 at the family home in Springdale Township, Redwood County, the daughter of Charles B. and Hazel (McFarland) Van Hecke, Sr. She attended school in rural Walnut Grove and graduated from Walnut Grove High School in 1942. She was confirmed in the Walnut Grove Methodist Church, and was united in marriage to Maynard Herder on March 9, 1943 at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Walnut Grove. She later became a member of English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.

Dorothy passed away at the Valley View Manor in Lamberton on Thursday, July 19, 2001 after a 20 year battle with M.S.

She is survived by son Gary of Wabasso, MN; one brother Charles (Bud) Van Hecke and his wife Rose of Seaforth, MN; one sister, Darlyne and her husband Ray Mammenga of Watertown, SD; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Maynard in 1991.

Interment was in the Walnut Grove City Cemetery with the Jacobson Funeral Service handling arrangements.
