Chester Addison, 84

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2001 for Chester W. Addison at the English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the church with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Chester Willis Addison was born on May 20, 1917, the son of Ervin and Lucy (Wiggins) Addison in North Hero Township near Walnut Grove, MN. He was baptized in the Congregational Church in Walnut Grove. He attended School District 19 and District 116. He was confirmed in English Lutheran Church as an adult in 1936.

Chester married Ilamay Radtke on Sept. 18, 1940. They had one daughter, Renee Louise, born May 10, 1953. Chester farmed the family farm in North Hero Township and worked at the Walnut Grove Sales Pavilion until he retired in 1979. In November of 1984 Chester and Ila moved to their home in Walnut Grove.

Chester served on the School Board of District 116. He was also an active member of English Lutheran Church where he served as a board member for several years.

Chester enjoyed family, friends, socializing, playing cards, eating and he seldom missed a night of “John Deere Bandwagon”.

Chester passed away at the Tracy Hospital on Monday, November 12, 2001 at the age of 84.

He is survived by his wife Ilamay of Walnut Grove; sister-in-law Mae Radtke, Tracy, MN; nieces and nephews, Lorelie and husband Merle Wahl, Currie, Gary and wife Mary Radtke, Marshall, Robert and wife Nancy Radtke, Houston, TX, William and wife Carol Radtke, Vesta, MN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Doris and Llewellyn Kosel, Sanborn, nieces and nephews Marsha and husband Jim Renner, Waconia, Charlotte and husband John Altermatt, Wanda, Brian and wife Linda Kosel, Owatonna, Kevin and wife Paulette Kosel, Redwood Falls; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Helen Jeanne and Don Anderson, Spencer, IA, niece and nephews Brady Jo Hare, Spencer, Tony and wife Teri Anderson, Batavia, IL, Erik Anderson, Armstrong, IA, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and one great-great-great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his uncle LO, his brother-in-law Earl Radtke and daughter Renee.

Burial will be in the Walnut Grove cemetery with the Jacobson Funeral Service handling arrangements.

Martha Cichanski, 86

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, November 9, 2001 for Martha M. Cichanski at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tracy. Father Brian Mandel officiated. Cantor was Ralph Ochocki with Richard Stelter as organist.

Casket bearers were Robert Ochocki, Harlan Manguson, Donald Verdeck, Bruce Fox, Cletus Schons and Keith Schons.

Martha M. Cichanski was born on May 9, 1915 in Hendricks, MN, one of 13 children born to Frank and Rose (Parulski) Ochocki. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. John Cancious Church at Wilno, MN. She attended country school in Lincoln Co.

She was united in marriage to Frank Cichanski on July 18, 1944 in Ivanhoe, MN. The couple farmed until 1950 when they moved to Tracy. Frank passed away in 1973. Martha continued to live in Tracy and she entered the Christian Manor Nursing Home in 1990 due to failing health.

Martha belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tracy where she was active for many years. She enjoyed sewing and patch work and her special love was gardening. Her horseradish was famous in the area. Martha also enjoyed playing cards and going to bingo.

Martha passed away on Sunday, November 4, at the Tracy Hospital.

Martha is survived by one son, Anthony (Tony) Cichanski of Tracy; one daughter Alice Robb of Denver, CO; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son and 12 brothers and sisters.

Interment was in St. Mary's Calvary Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Service of Tracy handled arrangements.

Ida Dawson, 92

Ida F. Dawson, 92, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Walnut Grove, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls.

Services were held on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at United Methodist Church, Walnut Grove.

Pastor Michael Smith officiated. Casket bearers were Bryan Boyington, Douglas Boyington, John Marshall, Jay Marshall, Marc Dawson and Matthew Dawson.

Born Sept. 4, 1909, in Holly Township, Murray County, she was the daughter of William and Carrie Furguson Way. She married Everett Dawson Aug. 19, 1931, in Tracy. He died in 1971.

She attended school in Slayton and Tracy and graduated from Tracy High School in 1928. She attended teachers training and then taught in rural schools for a couple of years. After marriage, they moved to a farm in Johnsonville Township, Redwood County, where they lived their entire married lives.

Surviving are one son, Richard (Linda) Dawson, Windom; two daughters, Shirley (Robert) Boyington, Eden Prairie, and Ethel (John) Marshall, Sioux Falls; one sister, Artie Salker, Tracy; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett and one brother, Asa Way.
