Milroy Legion improves to 6-2

The Milroy Legion won three of four games last week to improve their record to 6-2.

Milroy won two of three games in a Springfield tourney Saturday after trouncing Cottonwood Thursday.

Milroy opened with a 2-1 win over Sleepy Eye on Saturday. Milroy broke a 1-1 tie score with a run in the fifth inning to win the game. Eric Dolan held Sleepy Eye to 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 6 to get the win. Scott LaVoy went 2 for 3 to lead the attack.

"We played our best game of the tournament against Sleepy Eye," said Coach Chris Miller. Sleepy Eye won the tournament on the basis of having held the opposition to the fewest runs but we played them well and beat them. We got excellent pitching from Eric Dolan. He pitched six innings against Sleepy Eye and three against Mountain Lake and still threw less than 100 pitches."


Westbrook nips VFW nine, 8-7

The Tracy VFW baseball team loss to Westbrook 8-7 Friday evening in Tracy.

Westbrook took an early with a pair of runs in each of the first, third and fourth innings.

Tracy scored once in the fifth and six runs in the seventhGreg Carlson started on the mound for Tracy and pitched 1 inning facing 6 hitters and giving up 2 runs on 1 hit while striking out none and walking 4. He was relieved by Austin Skoblik who pitched 5 innings giving up 6 runs (3 earned) on 9 hits and struck out 2 while walking 5. Tim Byrne pitched a scoreless final inning.

"We came back with those six runs in the seventh, but were just a couple short of pulling a win out," said Coach Bill Tauer.

Eric Fraser and Matt Persons led the sixhit Tracy attack with 2 hits each.

The VFW roster includes: Brett Jackson, Derek Daniels, Tim Byrne, Donald Strand, Eric Fraser, Andy Coulter, Derek Radke, Eric Peterson, Ross Ladehoff, Jared Wendorff, Greg Carlson, Matt Person and Austin Skoblik.


Tracy Pee Wees bat their way to 3 and 0 record

The Tracy Pee Wee baseball team has started out with a 3-0 record in the Mini-Cam League, beating Minneota 5-2, Milroy 10-0 and Balaton 27-5.

Pitchers for the Red Team are Derek Radke, Derek Daniels and Cole Cooreman. In the win over Minneota, Derek Daniels, Derek Radke and Daniel Malmberg led the way at the plate. The leading hitters in the game with Milroy were Paul Carlson, Derek Radke, Cole Cooreman, Derek Daniels and Erik Frisvold.

Monday, the Red Team pounded out 19 hits against Balaton, Radke, Frisvold and Carlson each had four hits. Brad Ziemke and Zach Jones coach the team.
