Spikers Sweep

The Tracy/Milroy/Balaton volleyball team improved their season record to 2-0 with a clean sweep of the atwarter-Cosmos-Grove City Falcons Tuesday night at Tracy. The C squad won 3-0 with game scores of 15-8, 15-5 and 15-5. The B squad won 3-0 with game scores of 19-17, 15-5 and 15-5 and the varsity son 3-0 with game scores of 15-2, 15-4 and 15-5.

"We played with good effort tonight," said Panther coach Katie Gervais. "We had a lot of things to work on and I think we made some progress. If we couldn't show some improvement at this time of the year we would be in deep trouble. We will get a good test Thursday at Prinsburg and this weekend at Columbia Heights."

Cards too much for young Panthers

Too much experience and too much speed enabled the Redwood Valley Cardinals to beat Panthers 33-14 last Thursday night at Tracy.

The Cardinals, possessing great quickness dominated the Panthers in the early going and led 26-0 midway in the second period.

The Panthers played the Cardinals well the rest of the game out-scoring them 14-7.

"They (the Panthers) will be fine," said Redwood Valley Coach Matt Lundeen. “We didn't do a very good job of finishing the game off."

"If you throw out three big plays (a pass interception for a TD, the 50-yard run for a TD and the 74- yard punt return for a TD) it would be a far different game," said first year Panther Coach Joe Kemp. "We did some good things in the game although our tackling wasn't one of them."

"I told the kids at half-time not to be discouraged and to hang in there," said Kemp. "If we could have scored on our opening drive in the second half the game might have become much more interesting."
