Arlene Meld, 79

Arlene A. Meld, 79 of Tamarack, died February 22, 2002 at her daughter's home in White Bear Lake after a long battle with cancer.

She was born May 30, 1922 in St. James to Elmer and Agnes Setsvold. She was raised and attended school in Walnut Grove, MN.

On August 20, 1940 Arlene was united in marriage to Donald Meld. They made their first home in Walnut Grove, then moved to St. Paul in 1952. In 1959 they moved to Minnewawa Lake and a few years later they moved to Tamarack. After Donald died in 1977 Arlene remained n Tamarack. For the last few years she wintered in Texas staying with friends.

She built and operated a cafe, sold Avon, waitressed and enjoyed traveling, fishing, cooking, especially being with her grandchildren and attending their activities.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Yvonne and Lawrence FitzPatrick of White Bear Lake; son Steven Meld of Tamarack; grandchildren, Lawrence Jr., Daniel, and Bradley FitzPatrick and Trenton, Clinton, Levi Meld; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Bernice Setsvold of St. Paul and Signe Ziemke of Tracy.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, son Richard, brother Erland, sisters-in-law Gunhild Johnson, Virginia Coulter, brothers-in-law Kenny Meld, August Johnson, George Ziemke and Walter Pilaczynski.

Molly Rose Onken, 6 mo.

Memorial services for Molly Rose Onken, infant daughter of Timothy and Victoria Onken of Rapid City, SD formerly of Tracy were held on Wed., Mar. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Tracy Lutheran Church, Tracy, MN. Interment was in the Tracy Cemetery.

Molly Rose Onken, 6 months, Rapid City, died Thursday, February 28, 2002, at her home.

Survivors include her parents, Timothy and Victoria Onken and her sister Morgan Onken all of Rapid City; her maternal grandparents are Marlowe and Betty Lindstrom of Tracy; her paternal grandparents Les and Rose Onken of Tracy; her great-grandmother, Evelyn Yahnke of Westbrook, MN; several aunts and uncles, Kathy and Gary Wittnebel of Burnsville, MN, Marc and Patty Onken of Auburn, WA, Jim and Diane Onken of Eagle Lake, MN, Barb and Don McKee of Albany, MN, Brian and Linda Onken of Marshall, MN, Brent and Julie Lindstrom of St. Louis Park, MN, Grant and Jane Lindstrom of Knoxville, TN, Brad and Elsa Lindstrom of Pensacola, FL, and 20 cousins.

A memorial has been established to Story Book Island Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Rapid City Regional Hospital and Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

Arrangements were handled by Tracy Funeral Home, Tim E. Kulow, director.

Perry Shaw, 70

Perry D. Shaw, 70, of Dovray, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at Windom Hospice Center. Services were held on Saturday, March 2, 2002 at Immanuael Baptist Church, Westbrook. Burial was in the Westbrook cemetery. Westbrook Funeral Home handled the arrangements

Born Oct. 18, 1931, on a farm north of Dovray, he was the son of Walter and Mae Stivarius Shaw. He married JoAnn Lohre Aug. 16, 1951, at Old Westbrook Church.

Perry attended country school at District 27 and then Westbrook High School. He farmed with his father and worked at the Dovray Creamery. After marriage, they moved to St. Paul where he worked for Swifts. In 1954, he returned to Dovray to take over the family farm. After selling the farm in 1958, he continued raising livestock, working as a mechanic, and later started his trucking career. In 1985, he became an owner/operator. He had been semi-retired for the last 10 years, but had continued to truck and farm part-time.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Mike Shaw, Austin, Texas, Randy (Tonya) Shaw, Dovray, and Kent (Jodi Ruppert) Shaw, New Milford, Conn.; two daughters, Deborah (Jeff) Borkenhagen, Hutchinson, Robin (Gene) Paplow, Dundee; one brother, Jim Shaw, Dovray; three sisters, Virginia Regneir, Dovray, Polly Cassidy, Minneapolis, Geneieve Oreck, Tucson, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
