Jane L. Gifford, 83

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 27, 2002 for Jane L. Gifford at Balaton United Methodist Church. Reverend O. Thomas Booker officiated. Soloist was Jan Peterson with Peggy Bundy as organist.

Casket bearers were Staci Terwilliger, Tiffany Ahlers, Scott Bosacker, Travis Bosacker, Nick Smolen, Ben Smolen, Lea Gifford, Julie Gifford, Jon Ahlers and Mark Terwilliger.

Jane LaRue (Moat) Gifford was born June 26, 1918 to Samuel and Clara (Erickson) Moat in rural Balaton on the family farm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith. She attended country school south of Balaton and public schools in both Balaton and Marshall, graduating from Balaton in 1937. After high school Jane attended DeGiles Beauty School in Minneapolis, graduated and worked for a short time in the metro area and also in Marshall. After returning to Balaton, she operated a beauty shop in her own home for several years.

On December 25, 1940 Jane married Clair G. Gifford at the Balaton Presbyterian Parsonage. The couple made their home in Balaton. She worked along side her husband in their trucking business as the bookkeeper and later on, with her son's trucking business. Although Jane never really retired, she did slow down from the everyday office work in the early 1990's. During this time she also babysat for her grandchildren and missed very few of their school and sporting events.

Jane was a member of the Balaton United Methodist Church and its Women's groups. She was also a member of The Eastern Star and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed flower gardening, pie making, canning and bird watching, but most of all, spending time with her family.

In January of 2001 Jane entered the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton. She died Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at the age of 83.

Jane is survived by her one daughter, Carol (Bill) Swope of Marshall, MN and one son, Craig (Ann) Gifford of Balaton, MN; eight grandchildren, Staci Terwilliger, Tiffany Ahlers, Scott and Travis Bosacker, Nick and Ben Smolen, Leah and Julie Gifford; six great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; Alta Gifford of Russell, MN, Audrey (Ray) Hilton of Minneapolis, MN and Margie (Bob) Cadwell of Minneapolis, MN; one son-in-law, Tom Smolen of Temple, TX; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Colette and also an infant daughter.

Burial was in the Lakeside Cemetery, Balaton with the Almlie Funeral Home of Balaton handling arrangements.

Mary A. Moat, 81

Mary A. Moat of Boulder passed away April 9, 2002 in Boulder, CO. She was born July 29, 1920 in Tracy, MN to Lena and Henry Bromberg. She was valedictorian of her high school class in Tracy in 1938.

She married Bob Moat in 1941 in Tracy. He preceded her in death in 1996.

Mary moved to Boulder in 1964 from Lincoln, NE after being an Air Force wife for 20 years and living in several different locations.

Mary's life revolved around her devoted family. Our matriarch will be incredibly missed. She was an avid sports fan, especially football. She also loved current events and enjoyed a lively debate. She is a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish.

Mary is survived by six children, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One grandchild preceded her in death.

Survivors include James Moat and wife Jeri of Grand Lake CO; Patricia Quinby and husband Bob of Superior, CO; Richard Moat and wife Karen of Boulder, CO; Kathy Connelly and husband Kevin of Niwot, CO; Mary Jo Turner and husband Jeff of Boulder, CO; Susan Woltham and husband Mike of Longmont, CO; her grandchildren are Annie, Jason, Heidi, Christopher, Christy, Michael, Sarah and one great-granddaughter Torey.

A memorial mass was held Friday, April 12, 2002 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Inurnment was at Green Mountain Cemetery.

Dorothy Weaver, 79

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 29, 2002 for Dorothy Weaver at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home, Walnut Grove, MN. Rev. Paul Carlson officiated with special music by Joseph Cole.

Casket bearers were Jeff Vee, Randy Cole, Curt Hansen, Prenties Hammons, Michael Schieber and Danny Zutter.

Dorothy Marie Weaver was born October 20, 1922 to Olin K. and Lessie Mae (Van Cleave) O Neal in Ball, Louisiana. She was baptized and confirmed in Louisiana and attended school there.

Dorothy married Jessie Hooper on March 18, 1941. They lived in Louisiana until his death. She married Irvin Floyd Weaver on April 2, 1947, and moved to Tracy, MN, where they lived until 1961, when they moved to Walnut Grove. Irvin died in 1977. She continued to live in Walnut Grove.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and also enjoyed crocheting and gardening.

Dorothy Marie Weaver died on April 26, 2002 at the Westbrook Hospital at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 6 days.

She is survived by her children: Myra (Richard) Connelly of DeVille, Louisiana, Glenda (Curt) Hansen of Tracy, Tony (Melinda) Weaver of Watson, Louisiana, Wendy Bakken of Walnut Grove; two sisters: Alene Zutter of Hewitt and Frances Guin of Atlanta, Louisiana; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, son Larry, one granddaughter, Nikki, two brothers JD and Donald, one sister Melda and nephews Dennis, Kent and Wesley.

Interment was in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. The Walnut Grove Funeral Home handled arrangements.
