Harry Heggerston, 94

Harry Heggerston, 94, of Walnut Grove, died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at the Westbrook Hospital in Westbrook. Services were held on Fri., Sept. 20, 2002 St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Walnut Grove Funeral Home

Born March 8, 1908, in Ann Township, Cottonwood County, he was the son of Engebret and Mary Ellefson Heggerston. He married Verna Bakken in June, 1938, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Walnut Grove. She died Sept. 15, 1980.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He graduated from Walnut Grove High School and St. Olaf College in Northfield. He taught in Oakly for four years and then returned to Walnut Grove. After marriage, they settled on a farm in Ann Township where he farmed until retiring in 1972, when they moved to Walnut Grove. He was a member of the school board, Lions Club, and was active in church organizations.

Surviving are two sons, Harris Heggerston, Walnut Grove; Bob (Jean) Heggerston, Walnut Grove; one daughter, Ann (Dwayne) Julien, New Ulm; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Esther M. Rosen, 94

Esther M. (Williams) Rosen of Russell, MN, died Monday, September 23, 2002 at The Sunrise Manor in Tyler, MN at the age of 94. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2002 at the Russell Presbyterian Church in Russell.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Balaton, MN. There will be a one hour visitation prior to service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Russell Cemetery. Arrangements by Almlie Funeral Home, Balaton, MN

Ardene Schaefer, 64

Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at the Tracy Lutheran Church for Mrs. Ardene Schaefer, formerly of Tracy, now of Shoreview, MN.

Ardene Rae Schaefer was born November 12, 1937 in Watertown, SD to John and Anna (Dunke) Brix of Altamont, SD. She graduated from the Clear Lake High School in 1955.

After graduation from high school she attended General Beadle Teachers College in Madison, SD for two years in which she received a teachers certificate. Form 1957 to 1959, Ardene taught at rural schools. She taught grades 1-8 Petersen School and District #73 Glenwood Township located in SD.

On December 21, 1959 Ardene married John (Jack) Schaefer of Gary, SD in Clark, SD. After they were married they resided in Brookings, SD. Husband Jack worked as a feed salesman, so it required the family to move quite often throughout SD. In 1981 they moved to Tracy, MN. Jack passed away May 5, 2001.

Ardene's enjoyments in life were her five children, cooking, knitting, crocheting, reading, listening to country music, scrapbooking, family pets, seeing the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, her trip to the Bahamas with her husband, Jack and visiting with relatives.

Ardene passed away Saturday, September 14, 2002 in Shoreview, MN. She had reached the age of 64 years, 10 months and 2 days.

She is survived by her five children, Robert of Moose Lake, Travis of Mankato, Rita, Jeff and Justin all of Shoreview.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Robin, husband Jack, and many other relatives and friends.

Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery in Gary, SD. The Hamilton-Birk Funeral Home of Marshall handled arrangements.
