Softball team is unbeaten

A Tracy team playing in the Redwood County Girls' Slow-pitch Softball League is now 2-0.

Tracy has beaten Lucan 14-1 and 14-5.

The hitting leaders on the team are Kami Skoglund, 7 for 7 with 5 extra bases, Steph Kaup, five for six with a home run, Kristina and Megan Anderson with 4 hits each and Ashley Julien, 3 for 5 with 2 doubles.

Games are played Wednesday evenings. Other teams in the league are Clements, Wabasso, Seaforth, Wanda and Morgan.

Last year the Tracy team finished second in the league with a 14-7 record.


Sacred Heart wins big over Tracy VFW

The Tracy VFW baseball team lost to Sacred Heart at Tracy by a score of 15-1. Their season record to date is 1 -12.

Ted Nilius started on the mound for Tracy and pitched one inning giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits while striking out none and issuing 3 bases on balls. He was relieved by Derek Daniels who pitched the next 4 innings giving up 6 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits while striking out 4 and walking none.

Matt Persons, Lucas Walling and Dane Block got one hit each to lead the 3 hit Tracy attack.


Errors hurt as Legion drops 2

The Milroy Legion baseball team lost to Granite Falls 6-3 at Granite Falls last Thursday and at Cottonwood, Monday night 8-1.

"We aren't playing real well right now," said Coach Chris Miller. "We have gotten away from the things that allowed us to win early in the season, namely good pitching and solid defense."

Against Granite Falls, Greg Carlson pitched the first 4 1/3 innings giving up 6 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2. Nick Hanson pitched the last 1 2/3 innings giving up no runs on no hits while striking out 2 and walking 3.

Scott LaVoy got 2 of the 3 hits (one of them a home run) for Milroy with Matt Schreier getting the other hit.

In the Cottonwood game Josh Skoblik pitched the first 3 innings giving up 8 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 6. Hanson pitched the last 3 innings and allowed no runs on no hits while striking out 9 and walking 2.

Kathman, Schreier, Ladehoff and Byrne got the only Milroy hits. Cottonwood parlayed their 5 hits into 8 runs with the assistance of 5 Milroy errors.
