Trap shoot set August 11
It's time to take aim for the 25th annual Box Car Days Trap Shoot.
The sharp-shooting at the Tracy Sportsmen's Club begins at 10 a.m., Sunday, August 11. Competition is planned in three divisions: 16-yard 75 bird Lewis Class, 50-bird handicap Lewis Class; 25-pair doubles Lewis Class.
The Tracy Sportsmen's Club is located five miles north of Currie on Murray County Road, or eight miles south of Tracy. Lunch concessions will be sold at the site.
Chris Hannasch memorial tourney established at Tracy Country Club
The Tracy Country Club Board of Directors has decided to establish an annual Chris Hannasch Memorial Golf Tournament.
The annual tourney is scheduled for Saturday afternoon during Box Car Days weekend. This year's tourney is set Saturday, August 30, beginning at 1 p.m.
Proceeds from the four-person, best-ball tourney will be used each year to some community project in the Tracy, Milroy, Lucan, Walnut Grove, or Balaton areas.
The charge for each golfer is $35. Each participant will have a chance at winning one of two door prizes: a 2003 membership to the Tracy Country Club, or a set of custom-made golf clubs made by Con Rettmer.
People can purchase additional chances in the drawing for $5 each. Burgers, brats, and pork sandwiches will be served for $2 each.
The benefit golf tourney is a continuation of a Labor Day weekend tradition begun by the Bleos Bombers softball team, of which Hannasch was a member. Starting in the early 1990s, the team each year sponsored a Box Car Days golf tourney. The tourney continued after Hannasch, a 1991 Tracy Area High School graduate, died suddenly of a cardiac arrest while playing softball in 1998. The 1998 golf tourney was a benefit for his surviving wife, Amy. Tournament proceeds in subsequent years have been given to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, and the Tracy Aquatic Center.
