Melvin Bergman 88

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 5, 2003 for Melvin Bergman at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Milroy. Reverend Jeffrey M. Engholm officiated. Paul Holmberg was soloist with Dona Petersen as organist. Readers were Linda Bergman-Meaden and Mary Holmberg.

Casket bearers were Erin Sauter, LT CMDR Brian Sauer, Daniel Holmberg, Jay Sauter, Jeff Larson and Gary Meaden.

Honorary casket bearers were Roy Christensen, Jerome Christensen, Delbert Hammerschmidt, Louis Dolan, Mike Sauter and Lee Holmberg.

Melvin Edwin Bergman was born December 25, 1914 to August and Meda (Norlin) Bergman in Lime Lake Township, Murray County. He was Baptized and Confirmed in the Christian faith at Lime Lake Lutheran Church and attended country school. Melvin farmed along with his family and in 1939 he attended the Minnesota Farm School at the University of Minnesota for one year.

On February 3, 1940 Melvin married Bernice Trembley in Slayton, MN. They made their home on a farm near Avoca, MN until 1944 when they moved to a farm near Vesta, MN. In 1971 they moved into Milroy, MN where they presently reside.

A farmer his whole life, Melvin also found time to be a part of his community. He was a past member of the Milroy School Board for 12 years, past member of the Milroy City Council for 10 years and on the Vesta Elevator Board of Directors for 12 years. Melvin was also a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Milroy. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, sharing a good joke, and especially golfing. Melvin also enjoyed performing magic tricks for family and friends and spending time with his grandchildren.

On Wednesday, April 2, 2003 Melvin died at the Tracy Area Medical Center at the age of 88.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Bernice; two daughters, Mona (Mike) Sauter of Atlanta, GA and Cherri (Jeff) Larson of Brooklyn Park, MN; seven grandchildren, Jay, Erin and Brian Sauter, Pat Pape, Trudy Buysee and Lisa and Mark Jemming; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Bergman of Fulda, MN and Bob Bergman of Cambridge, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, one daughter, Theresa Jemming, six brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Interment was in the Milroy City Cemetery with the Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handling arrangements.

Dolores Jacobs, 88

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 4, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Dolores Jacobs formerly of Tracy. Fr. Brian Mandel officiated. Organist was Shannon Benson with Carol Cooreman as cantor.

Casket bearers were Dennis Rans, Dean Rans, John Schleppenbach, Bill Bolin, Jerry Bryant and Keith Stanton.

Dolores Jacobs was born July 4, 1916 to Andrew and Hattie Rans near Clements, MN in Sundown Township. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and grew up in Springfield, MN. Dolores graduated from Springfield High School and attended Mankato State Teachers' College.

On June 24, 1939 Dolores married Lloyd Jacobs in Clements and they made their home in Tracy, MN. Dolores was an elementary teacher in rural schools and the Tracy Elementary School system for 34 years. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tracy, a member of the Minnesota Education Association and several community clubs.

Dolores died on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at the Victory Lakes Care Center in Lindenhurst, IL at the age of 86. She had been a resident of the care facility for close to four years.

Dolores is survived by one daughter, Nancy, and her husband Peter Toppen of Lindenhurst, IL; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Fr. N. J. Rans and Loren Rans; one sister, Norleen Rans and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, Lloyd, one sister, two nephews and one niece preceded her in death.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery with the Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handling arrangements.

Angela Newberg, 82

Angela “Ann” Newberg age 82 of Tracy, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2003 at the Church of Christ in Tracy.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2003 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the North Hero Cemetery, rural Walnut Grove, MN. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling arrangements.
