Gladys Gilpin, 95

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the Tracy United Methodist Church in Tracy, MN for Gladys L. Gilpin. Gladys died on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, MN at the age of 95. Interment will be in Tracy City Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy.

Angela Newberg, 82

Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 12, 2003 for Angela Newberg at the Church of Christ in Tracy, MN. Rev. Chad Seamann and Pastor Homer Dobson officiated. Bruce Flesner was soloist with Eleanor Hewitt as organist.

Casket bearers were Homer Dobson, Chad Seamann, Cy Molitor, Dan Anderson, Jo Pyle and Duane Voss.

Angela (Walsh) Newberg was born March 27, 1921 to James and Frances (Powers) Walsh in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, Canada. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. After the death of her father, Ann was raised in an orphanage where she was also schooled.

In February of 1942 Angela married Arthur Newberg in St. John's Newfoundland, Canada, where he was stationed in the military. Ann came to America in 1943 when her husband shipped out to Germany during World War II. She came to Walnut Grove, MN and lived with her in-laws until 1944 when she moved into Tracy, MN.

Ann worked as an Activity Aide at Christian Manor Nursing Home in Tracy for 20 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Tracy where she was active in Willing Workers, Priscilla Circle, Christian Manor Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and the church's Bible School and worship services. Ann's personal enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

On Tuesday, April 8, 2003 Angela Newberg died at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, MN at the age of 82.

Ann is survived by one son, David (Armestina) Newberg of Tracy, MN; one daughter, Pat (Gerald) Smith of Massillon, OH; one daughter-in-law, Mary Newberg, Tracy, MN; five grandchildren, Kevin Bierbaum, Aaron, Jeremy, Joshua Smith and Jody Newberg; two great-grandchildren, Amber and Areanna; one brother, Denis Walsh of Toronto, Canada; special friend, Jade Johnson; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents, husband, Arthur, one son, Art Jr. and two brothers preceded her in death.

Interment was in North Hero Cemetery in Walnut Grove, MN with the Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handling arrangements.

Robert Rolland, 60

Robert D. Rolland age 60 of Mesa, AZ died Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at the Valley Lutheran Heart Hospital in Mesa, AZ. Services will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, April 17, 2003 at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church at 1:00 PM on Thursday. Inurnment will be at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 17, 2003. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy, MN is handling the arrangements.

Robert Dean Rolland, Sr. (Bob) was born January 6th, 1943 to Manley and Vivian Rolland (Johnson) in Marshall, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Milroy, MN. He grew up in the Milroy area and attended Milroy Public School.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country from 1962 to 1967. Following his military service he worked in California for McDonnell Douglas Corporation, he returned to the Tracy/Milroy area where he and Jackie (Pixler) raised their son and two daughters. Bob worked for Terrace Park Dairy and was a driver for bulk fuel while they lived in Tracy. He was active in the Tracy Fire Department from 1971 to 1979 and served two years as Captain of the Department prior to moving his family to the Minneapolis area.

Robert and Kathy Hanson were married on September 7th, 1984 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Excelsior, MN and made their home in Chaska, MN. Robert and Kathy established Rolland Maintenance Contractors, (RMC) in 1982 and sold it in 1991. Rolland Security Service was established 1989 which provided security to high profile accounts throughout the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area; such as the 1991 US Open. They sold Rolland Security in 1999 and retired to Mesa, Arizona where he enjoyed the warm weather.

Bob died on April 9, 2003 at Valley Lutheran Heart Hospital in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 60.

Robert is survived by his wife, Kathy of Mesa, AZ; mother, Vivian Rolland of Tracy, MN; one son, Robert D. (Rob) and Jodi Rolland, Jr. of Denver, CO; two daughters, Lisa Marie Kowalczyk of Marshall, MN and Jennifer, Mrs. Jim Olenik of Minneapolis, MN; one stepson, Brad and Lorrie Wnuk of Casper, WY; six grandchildren, Keaton, Rees, Carson, Matthew, Robert and Erin; four brothers and their spouses, Richard and Ardace of Minneapolis, MN, Larry and Peggy of Milroy, MN, Doug and Gail of Willmar, MN, and Dale and Bette of Apache Junction, AZ; special friends, Jackie and Darrell Denny of Minneapolis; nieces, nephews and cousins.

His father, Manley, and two brothers, David and Terry preceded him in death.

The family asks that memorials, in place of flowers, be sent to the Robert D. Rolland Memorial Fund, at any Bank of America location or they may be mailed to: Almlie Funeral Home, 444 Craig Avenue, Tracy, MN 56175. This fund is to benefit the Valley Lutheran Heart Hospital in Mesa, AZ in conjunction with Bank of America.

Floyd Shikoski, 96

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, April 14, 2003 for Floyd A. “John” Shikoski of Ivanhoe at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe. Mr. Shikoski died on Thursday, April 10, at the Divine Providence Health Center in Ivanhoe.

Floyd was born on October 21, 1906 in Ivanhoe, MN to parents Walter and Rose (Sopczak) Shikoski.

On October 12, 1938 Floyd was married to Virginia Burczyk at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wllno. The couple made their home in Ivanhoe as Floyd worked at the Hoffman Hardware and Implement Company for more than 32 years. He later served as manager of the Ivanhoe Municipal Liquor Store, retiring in 1975. In his retirement years he worked as a visitation attendant at Birk Funeral Home in Ivanhoe.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; two sons Floyd Shikoski Jr. and wife Frances of N. Fort Myers, FL and John Shikoski and wife Anita of New Ulm; two grandchildren; sister Cecilia Krause of Marshall; and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; two sisters and a granddaughter.

The Birk Funeral Home of Ivanhoe handled the arrangements, with burial in the church cemetery.
