James Tofting, 76

Funeral services for James "Dutch" Tofting 76 of Tracy were held today, Wednesday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Tracy Lutheran Church. Rev. Stephen Olson and Rev. Gary Gabel officiated.

Honorary casket bearers were nephews Brad and Craig Bengston and all his friends.

Casket bearers were Melvin Klein, Bruce Rykhus, Jerry Town, Robert Cooreman, Joe Cooreman, Gene Hook, Jay Bosacker and Donald E. Johnson.

James "Dutch" Bernard Tofting was born March 5, 1927 in Tracy MN to Melvin and Grace (Olson) Tofting. He was baptized at Luther Church and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in 1942. He attended school in Walnut Grove and Tracy, graduating from Tracy High School in 1945.

Dutch enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and after his discharge from the service, he farmed with his father and brother until his retirement in 1987.

He moved into Tracy eleven years ago. He was a member of the American Legion Post 173 and the Tracy Eagles. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing pool and cards.

James "Dutch" Bernard Tofting passed away April 26, 2003 at the Tracy Nursing Home in Tracy, Minnesota at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 21 days.

He is survived by his brother Myron of Tracy and sister Bernita and husband Allen Bengtson of Surprise, AZ; two nephews Brad and Craig; and his dear friend Ruth Helgemo of Tracy.

He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, who died in 1939.

Burial was in Luther Cemetery, rural Tracy with Tracy Area Funeral Home handling arrangements.
