Merlin Lanoue, 81

Funeral services were held for Merlin Lanoue, 81, of Marshall on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. He died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at Weiner Memorial Nursing Home.

He was born July 8, 1921, in Marshall to Eldred and Jeanette (Boudreau) Lanoue. After growing up in the Marshall area, Merlin enlisted in the U.S. Army. During World War II he served in the Pacific Theater. After his discharge, Merlin returned to the Marshall area and was united in marriage to Leatha Evans. In 1949, the couple moved to Tracy. In 1968, they returned to the Marshall area. Merlin was very mechanical and enjoyed building and fixing things. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his boys. He was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Merlin is survived by his children, Merlin E. (and Grace) of Alexandria, Robert (and Rufina) of Alexandria; Duane of Granite Bay, Calif.; Sharon (and Kenneth) Steinhouse of Northfield; Larry (and Joan) of Garvin; Myron of Savage; and Bruce of Philadelphia, Pa.; ten grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Mitchell of Marshall; and a brother, Leroy Lanoue of Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Leatha; his parents; and one brother, Arnold.

The Rehkamp Funeral Home of Marshall handled arrangements.

Kathryn Weinzetl, 71

Mass of Christian Burial was held today, May 14, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, MN for Kathryn A. Weinzetl. Father Paul Evers officiated. Lector was Douglas Weinzetl with Patty LeClaire as organist.

Casket bearers were Jeff Zens, Jeff Shea, Steven Shea, Douglas Weinzetl, Dennis Veroeven and Russell Veroeven.

Kathryn Ann Weinzetl was born October 15, 1931 to Cecil and Lillian (Randolph) Veroeven on a farm south of Walnut Grove, MN. She was Baptized and Confirmed in the Catholic faith and attended country school. She later attended Walnut Grove Public Schools and graduated from Walnut Grove High School. As a young woman Kathryn worked at the egg factory in Westbrook, MN and also as a housekeeper in several neighbors homes.

On November 18, 1952 Kathryn married John J. Weinzetl in Walnut Grove at St. Paul's Catholic Church. They made their home on a farm near Currie, MN and in 1959 they moved into Currie when her husband began as custodian for the Catholic School and the church. Kathryn worked along side her husband for many years as custodians.

Kathryn was a past member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Walnut Grove and a current member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie, where she had been active in the church women's groups. She enjoyed reading, gardening and flowers.

In September of 2001 Kathryn entered the Slayton Care Center and was a resident there until late April when she became a patient of the Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She died Sunday, May 11, 2003 at the age of 71.

Kathryn is survived by her two sons, Michael of Hutchinson, MN and John of Currie, MN; three daughters, Sharon (Douglas) Bullerman of Rushmore, MN, Debra (Craig) Anderson of Aberdeen, SD and Lisa Weinzetl of Currie, MN; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Stacy, Nicholas and Melissa; one sister, Dorothy Schons of Tracy, MN; one brother, Robert Veroeven of Walnut Grove, MN; one sister-in-law, Madelyn Veroeven of Mankato, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her parents, husband, John, infant son, Kevin and one brother, Donald preceded her in death.

Burial was in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Currie, MN with the Almlie Funeral home of Tracy handling arrangements.
