John H. Reiter, 87

John H. Reiter, 87, of Currie, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Royal C. Johnson Veterans Administration Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. The service was held Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at IHM Church, Currie, with the Rev. Paul Evers officiating. Burial with military honors was in Calvary Cemetery, Currie. Totzke Funeral Home, Slayton, was in charge of the arrangements.

Born May 28, 1916, in West Bend, Iowa, he was the son of Joseph and Anna Thuringer Reiter. He married Corine Illg Sept. 25, 1945, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Currie.

In 1918, he moved with his family to a farm near Currie, where he grew up and attended IHM school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a POW in Germany. He returned to Currie. After marriage, they farmed near Currie until 1952, when they opened Reiter's Locker and Grocery Store in Currie. They retired in 1975 and continued living in Currie and spending summers at Lake Shetek. He was a member of IHM Church, Currie, and had served on the Calvary Cemetery Board from 1977 to 1998. He was a Currie councilman for three terms and a volunteer fireman for 20 years.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Alan (Mary) Reiter, River Falls, Wis., and Curt (Gail) Reiter, Omaha, Neb.; one brother, George (Bernice) Reiter, Currie; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Helen Edwards, 93

Services for Helen Edwards, 93, of Tracy will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tracy Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation continues Friday morning at the church, one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery in rural Tracy.

She died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at Tracy Area Medical Services.
