Track girls state-bound in seven events
The Tracy/Milroy/Balaton girls qualified three relays and four individuals for the state Class A track and field meet in Blaine Friday and Saturday.
As a team, the Panther girls claimed the Section 3A runner-up trophy at the regional meet held in Montevideo Thursday.
The Panther girls will send three relay teamsthe 4x100, the 4x800, and the 4x400and four individuals. The four individual qualifiers are:
Bobbi Jo Buyck (pole vault), Jillian Tholen (1600 meters), Tessa Nelson (high jump) and Melissa Luckhardt (400 meters), to the state meet in Blaine this weekend. The first place relay teams and the first and second place individuals qualify for the state meet.
The 4x100 relay team is comprised of Tina McIntire, Jenna Schaar, Melissa Luckhardt, and Sarah Fritz.
Kirstin Sweetman, Laura Zwach, Becca Gervais, and Jillian Tholen are the members of the 4x800 relay.
The Panthers' 4x400 relay team is made up of Schaar, Gervais, Tholen, and Luckhardt.
"We feel that we can compete at this level," said Panther Coach Steve Jones. "We will be as well represented as anyone."
TMB softball had strong second-half of season
The Panther girls softball team finished its season with a record of 11 wins and 9 losses. They were 8 wins and 6 losses in the 212 Conference.
The season turned around between games of a double header against Yellow Medicine East. The Panthers were 2-4 up to that time and after they were 9-5.
The team was led in hitting by Alyssa Lightfoot who had 17 hits in 36 at bats for an average of .472. She was followed by Emily Miller with 24 hits in 58 at bats for .413 and Lindsay Erickson with 23 hits in 58 at bats for .396.
Most of the pitching was done by Megan Anderson who won 10 games and lost 8 while compiling a earned run average of 2.46.
Track and field days at local elementary schools yield many winners
Winning St. Mary's team green, but not with envy
Seven teams competed for top honors at St. Mary School's annual field day last week.
An obstacle coarse, broad jump, running relays, three-legged race, and dart throw were some of the events.
The "green team" comprised of Austin Gleis, Taylor Vandeputte, Charly Ann Morgan, Parker Lanoue, Dwayne Fedde, Bradly Hicks, Mark LaVoy, Isaac Dolan, and Ryan Tholen took first place with 63 points.
The "orange team" compiled 49 points for second place. Team members were Tayler Carlson, Asa Nelson, Justin LeClaire, Alexis Buysse, Brandon Benson, Andrew Anderson, Meridith Hicks, Michael Anderson, and Karly Ruppert.
Third-place honors went to the "black team" comprised of Scott Lanoue, Josh Kummerfeldt, Gavin VanMoer, Tommy Nelson, Lauren Schaar, Cole Morgan, Nick Olafson, Paul LeClaire. The "blacks" had 41 points.
