Panther softball honors players

The Panther fast-pitch softball team held their end-of-the-season supper and awards night on May 26 at the home of Greg and Julie Erickson in Balaton. The following awards were given:

Defensive player of the year-Steph Kaup

Offensive player of the year-Emily Miller

the hustle award-Stacy LaVoy

Most Improved player-Steph Hebig

Pitcher of the year-Megan Anderson

Lindsay Erickson was named to the 212 Conference Team, and was later named to the Marshall Independent's all-area softball team.


Legion stops skid

The Milroy Legion baseball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over Montevideo Monday night.

Erik Fraser led the 13-hit attack with a 3 for 4 day at the plate.

Brett Jackson started on the mound for Milroy and pitched 3 innings giving up 3 runs on 1 hit while striking out 1 and walking 3. He was relieved by Josh Skoblik who pitched 3 1/3 innings giving up 1 run on 4 hits while striking out none and walking 2.

Tim Byrne pitched the last out for Milroy.

Cottonwood 6, Miloy 0

Last week Milroy played Cottonwood and lost 6-0 Milroy was held to no runs and only 1 hit, that one by Rohlik.

Jackson started on the mound for Milroy and gave up 6 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1 and walking 2. Rohlik finished the game and gave up no run s in 1 1/3 innings while striking out 2 and walking 1.

Three losses in tourney

In the tournament on Saturday Milroy lost all three games. They lost to Mountain Lake 11-8, to Springfield 10-2 and to Sleepy Eye 11-0.

"We did not play well on Saturday," said Coach Chris Miller.


Errors, walks doom VFW

The Tracy VFW baseball team lost three games this week.

Tracy lost to Marshall Blue 13-1 last Friday and then lost both ends of a double header to Olivia Monday night 5-2 and 12-2.

Marshall 13, Tracy 1

Against Marshall Blue the Tracy team was out-hit 6-1 but also had 5 errors. Daniels, Castle and Johnson all pitched for Tracy with none of them able to hold back the Marshall attack.

Derek Daniels got the lone hit for Tracy.

"Our pitchers struggled throwing strikes," said Tracy Coach Bill Tauer. "You will not win many games walking eight hitters along with five errors."

Olivia 5, Tracy 2

In the first Olivia game, won by Olivia 5-2 Derek Radke pitched a nice game for Tracy after giving up 2 runs in the first inning. He went 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 10 hits while striking out 9 hitters and walking only 1. Johnson led the 7 hit Tracy attack with a pair of hits.

Olivia 12, Tracy 2

In the second Olivia game Olivia scored 7 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Cole Cooreman came on in relief of Johnson and held the opponents to only 2 runs in the last 3 innings.

"We dug ourselves too deep a hole to get out of," said Tauer. Cole(Cooreman) did a nice job in relief of Johnson only giving up 2 runs in 3 innings."

The Tracy VFW teams season record is now 5-9 .
