TMB, Prinsburg share VB crown

Tracy/Milroy/Balaton and Central Minnesota Christian, Prinsburg are co-champions of 212 Conference volleyball this year.

Central earned a share of the conference championship by beating the Panthers in four games last week, 25-23, 12-25, 25-20 and 25-16.

Both teams ended conference play with identical 6-1 conference records. The loss dropped TMB's season record to 13-13.

"They (CMCS) did a good job of blocking our hitters and we were not able to adjust as well as they were able to adjust to our blocking," said Panther coach Katie Gervais "They do not have a powerful attack but they do a good job of keeping the ball in play."

The Panthers were led in hitting by Tessa Nelson with 17 kills and 5 blocks. Emily Miller had 11 kills and Kasey Loeslie had 6 kills to go with her 3 blocks and 17/17 serving with 2 aces. Laura Lanoue was 12/12 and had 1 ace serve. Krysta Tholen had 31 set assists.

The Panthers have been seeded first in the Section 3AA North volleyball tournament. TMB will begin tournament play against Canby on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 5 p.m. at Redwood Falls.

"I was disappointed in our play against CMCS and we are going to have to work hard in practice to get ready for the tournament," observed Gervais

Cross country section meet is Thursday

The Panther girls' cross-country team is preparing this week for the Section 3A meet at Adrian Thursday.

Tracy/Milroy/Balaton will be weakened by the loss of their leading runner, Jillian Tholen to mononucleosis. Two seniors—Dani Jones (ankle) and Johanna Schmidt (jaw)—are also sidelined.

"We will see who can take advantage of the opportunity," said Steve Jones, of the other runners who will have the chance to run varsity Thursday.
