Laveta Garman, 81

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall and on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005 at Grace United Methodist Church in Rogers, AR for Laveta Garman, 81 of Marshall, MN and Bentonville, AR.

Laveta Igene (Whitfield) Garman was born on July 12, 1924, in Sawyer, Kansas, to George and Lula Mae (McLaughlin) Whitfield. She grew up and graduated from school in Kansas. Laveta then completed a two-year accounting degree. On September 4, 1949, she was united in marriage to Arnold Jr. Garman. in Barber Co. Kansas. The couple moved to California where Arnold completed his schooling, Laveta worked at Kaiser Hospital, and their children: David, Bruce, Gail and James were born. The family later moved to the suburbs of Chicago, then to Marshall from 1969 – 1977. In Marshall, Laveta worked as the kitchen supervisor at Weiner Memorial Hospital. The couple later moved to Clinton, IA, Frederick, OK, and after retirement in 1987 they settled in Bentonville, AR, where Laveta lived until she recently moved back to Marshall. Laveta was an avid reader and enjoyed playing cards, choral choir, bird watching, spending time with family, friends, and church family. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Grace United Methodist Church Circle and the Red Hat Society.

She is survived by her children David (Nancy) Garman of Corpus Christi, TX, Gail (Duane) DeSmet of Lake Shetek, MN, James (Suzanne) Garman of Seymour, CT, grandchildren Jamie (Miranda) DeSmet, Bethany Garman, Holly DeSmet, Katy Garman, Jason Garman, Colleen Garman, Wayne Garman, Alison Garman, great-grandchild Kayla Kretzmier, sister Marlene (Earl) Donaldson of Russell, KS, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, son Bruce, three brothers and three sisters.

Interment for Arnold and Laveta Garman was at 1 p.m. Monday, November 7, 2005 at Riverview Cemetery in Kiowa, Kansas. Laveta died on Monday, October 31, 2005, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.

Memorials preferred to Prairie Home Hospice of Marshall or Grace United Methodist Church of Rogers, Arkansas.


James Gullickson, 49

James Arthur Gullickson, age 49 of New Prague died October 31, 2005 at his home.

A memorial service was held today, Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at Mankato Mortuary, with Chaplain Gary Creech officiating.

James Arthur Gullickson was born March 26, 1956 in Tracy to Arthur and Eleanor (Mason) Gullickson. As a teen, he moved to Mankato, where he attended both East and West High Schools. After graduating from Mankato East High School in 1974, he entered the United States Marines. He served his country for 4 years and was stationed mostly in Maryland. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Mankato. He attended and graduated from Mankato State with an engineering Bachelor of Science degree.

On August 13, 1983, he married Sarah Ireland in St. Clair. They had resided in Amboy before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico. While there, they had a daughter, Laura. James and Sarah were later divorced. James continued to live and work in New Mexico. He later married and was most recently living in New Prague, owning his own internet import business, Japanese Styles, Inc. James enjoyed reading, photography, computers, electronics and visiting and spending time with his family, especially his mother, sister and brother-in-law.

James is survived by his daughter, Laura Gullickson of Mankato; mother, Eleanor Gullickson of Tracy; sister, Linda Williams and her husband, Darrell of Balaton; niece, Dawn Robben-Hutson of Waldorf, Maryland. James was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato with military honors by the Mankato Area Veterans Memorial Squad. The Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.


Garnet Holm, 52

Graveside services will be held at the Tracy City Cemetery 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005 for Garnet Holm, age 52.

Holm died Oct. 19, 2005 in Vernon, TX.


Audrey Connell, 83

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 4, 2005 for Audrey Theressa Connell of Leesburg, FL.

Audrey was born in Twin Valley, MN and moved to Leesburg in 1978 from Minneapolis, MN.

She was a Certified Home Health Care Specialist. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Leesburg and was a Deacon of the church.

Audrey passed away on Tues., Nov. 1, 2005.

She is survived by sons, Vincent Wessling, Leesburg, FL, Gary Wessling, Coon Rapids, MN, Dale Wessling, Leesburg, FL; daughter Janet Wessling, Washington, DC; brothers, LaMoine Meyer of Tracy, Alan Meyer of Briclyn, MN, Richard Meyer of Audubon, MN; sister Norma England of Pioneer, CA; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Connell was preceded in death by her son John, sister Chloris Nickerson and brothers, Deane and Donald Meyer.

A graveside Memorial Service will be held at a later date in the Tracy City Cemetery.

The Beyers Funeral Home of Leesburg, FL handled the arrangements.
