13 hits warm TMB victory

The Panther boys’ baseball team beat Murray County Central 13-6 Friday at Tracy in 45-degree temperatures made chillier by a strong northwest wind.

Luke Walling was the player of the game for the Panthers. Walling came on to pitch in relief of starter Derek Radke with one out and the bases loaded in the third inning and recorded two strikeouts to end the inning. He went on to shut out the Rebels, except for a lone run in the seventh inning, the rest of the way to get the win.

MCC led 5-4 when the Panthers came to bat in the fifth inning. Led by two hits from pinch hitter Anthony Dolan, TMB put up 8 runs to take control of the game. Matt Bauer and Radke also had 2 hits each for the Panthers.

Prairie, Coyle win state events

The Northland Youth Wrestling Association (NYWA) held the State Youth Wrestling Tournament in Rochester this weekend with over 1200 kids participating in grades P-8.

The Panthers sent 6 wrestlers to this year’s state tournament including Jake Burns, Joshua Coyle, Zach Campbell, Andrew Dieter, Luke Prairie, and Eric Cooreman.

The Panthers had two state champions including Luke Prairie, who won his second state title, and Joshua Coyle, who won his third state title. Zach Campbell lost a close 3-2 match in the finals to place second.

“All of our wrestlers looked outstanding this weekend. Zach lost a tough match in the finals 3-2”, stated Youth Coach Michael Coyle. “Eric, Andrew, and Jake all got a win, but ran into some tough competition in the wrestle-backs. The competition at this level is the best in the state.”
