Panthers top Camden baseball

The Panther baseball team won the Camden Conference Championship with an 8-6 win over KMS in 8 innings at Kerkhoven. Tracy/Milroy/Balaton improved to 14-5 for the season and 10-2 in the conference. KMS dropped to 11-3 overall and 8-3 conference.

The Fighting Saints tied the game 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning with a home run by Jason Fernholz off Panther right fielder Paul Carlson’s glove .

“We would have won the game in seven innings if I hadn’t hit the fence and had the ball pop out of my glove and go over the fence,” said Carlson.

“That would have been a tremendous catch by Paul (Carlson),” said Panther Coach Bill Tauer. “All in all the kids played well today, it was a back and forth game.”

Matt Bauer started on the mound for TMB and pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs while striking out 7 walking 4 and hitting 3 hitters. Derek Daniels came on in relief and got the win by pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing only 1 run.

Paul Carlson led the 9 hit Panther attack with a 3 for 4 day at the plate while Matt Bauer was 2 for 5.
