Jackson County Central topped the Tracy/Milroy/Balaton girls 57-42 at Jackson Friday.

“We played much better in this game and the score was close up until the last few minutes,” said Panther Coach Ryan Kruse. “If we can make the same progress each game this season we will be all right.”

Ashley Kirk led the Panther scoring with 14 points to go with her 4 steals and Mallory Fultz added 8 points.

The Panthers were out-rebounded 16-28 and committed 26 turnovers to 18, had 7 assists to 11 and had 12 steals to 11.

Panther boys take Dawson-Boyd, 68-57

The Panther boy’s basketball team evened it’s season record to 1-1 (1-0 in the Camden Conference) with a 68-57 win over Dawson-Boyd at Dawson Tuesday night.

“We played a good game, but we still aren’t at the point we want to be,” said Panther Coach Nat Boyer. “Dawson-Boyd played better man-to-man defense than we anticipated. Our transition points were big offensively. We had some letdowns defensively and gave up more transition points than we should have, but in the end we got the‘W’. The boys played well, it was a total team effort, everyone did their part and that is what this team is all about.”

The Panthers came out in the first half and took an early lead, but fell behind the Blackjacks until there was two minutes remaining in the half. The Panthers went into the break with a 31-25 lead after applying some half court pressure defense.

Steve Paradis led the Panther offense with 15 points. T/M/B pulled down 32 rebounds to 22 for D-B, had 13 steals to 5, 16 assists to 5, and had 2 blocks. T/M/B turned the ball over 17 times to 25 for the Blackjacks.
