First win still eludes girls

The Panther girls’ basketball team lost to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton at Tracy on Monday night 63-46.

The loss dropped Tracy/Milroy/Balaton’s season record to 0-4.

“We played well at times during both the first and second halves, but did not play well for the whole 36 minutes,” said Panther Coach Ryan Kruse. “We turned the ball over way too many times to get back into the game once we were down. We need to learn to play the whole game and to value the basketball more.”

The girls got behind early but then rallied to take a 9-8 lead early in the first half. However from that point it was all downhill as they were obviously bothered by the Lady Knights’ pressure defense and fell behind 35-23 at the intermission. The Panthers rallied several times in the second half but could not overcome the R-T-R lead.

Mallory Fultz led the Panther offense with 20 points and she pulled down 9 rebounds. Jackie Haecherl added 7 points to go with her 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

Panther boys sink RTR

The Panther boys’ basketball team won over R-T-R at Tyler Monday night by a score of 76-66. The win improved Tracy/Milroy/Balaton’s season record to 2-1 and they are now 2-0 in the Camden Conference. R-T-R fell to 1-2 and they are 0-1 in the Conference.

“The boys played a very good game, we are improving and I truly believe that showed on the floor,” said Panther Coach Nat Boyer. “We keep seeing how well all these guys play together and how much the TEAM matters to each and everyone of them. We are very fortunate to not have any ego’s on this team and all the guys do what they can, when they are called upon to help make this team successful. We are going to face some big tests later on at the end of this week. Defensively we still need to make some adjustments and offensively we have some fine tuning to do as well.”

The Panthers hit 28 out of 53 shots for 53% shooting after shooting 49% against Dawson-Boyd and only 19% against Redwood Valley in the opening game loss. T/M/B and R-T-R each had 30 rebounds, T/M/B had 11 steals to 8 for the Knights, 13 assists to 6, 4 blocks to 5 and turned the ball over 13 times to 15 for R-T-R.

T/M/B was led in scoring by Steve Paradis with 21 points while Isaac Dolan had 17.

The Panther boys B squad won over R-T-R 47-43.

“It was good to get our first win,” said Panther Coach Bob Ladehoff. “Walker Schaar played well on both ends of the court. Kane Zwaschka come off the bench and played very well. We forced R-T-R into a number of turnovers and took advantage of their mistakes.”
