Dorothy Wells, 88

Dorothy Pierce Wells, 88, of Hannibal, MO died July 18, 2007 at 10:00 p.m. at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Sat., July 21st at Fifth Street Baptist Church in Hannibal. Rev. Richard Hurtgen officiated. Burial was in Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Mrs. Wells was born Feb. 8, 1919, in Clarkton, MO, to Warren and Beulah Ferguson Pierce. She was married Aug. 16, 1946, in Washington, MO, to William L. Wells and he preceded her in death Aug. 12, 1980.

Survivors include three children: Warren Wells and wife, Mary, of Kirksville, Julie Wells Stewart and husband Lloyd, of Garvin, MN., Jennifer Wells Secker and husband Jim, of Rogers, Ark., five grandchildren, Christopher Katsaras, Julie Katsaras, Sarah Wells Scott and husband, John, Lauren Wells Spaniol and husband John and Brian C. Wells; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy Pierce, of Falts, Ill.; and her sisters-in-law, Mary McEntire and husband Earl, and Laura Hudson, both of Hannibal, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Pollard.

Mrs. Wells was an active member of Fifth Street Baptist Church. She was active in the community and had been a volunteer for The American Cancer Society’s “Reach To Recovery” program, had served as a board member for the Senior Citizens Center and Hannibal Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. She was a member of Lighthouse Chapter 194, O.E.S. and was past Matron and Grand Represenative and District Deputy.

She graduated from Hannibal LaGrange College with an Associate of Arts degree in 1986. Memorials may be made to Fifth Street Baptist Church in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel, 2619 St. Mary’s, Hannibal, MO 63401.


Gale ‘Red’ Brekken, 70

Gale “Red” Brekken age 70 of Tracy, MN died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Hospice House in Marshall.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Tracy Lutheran Church with visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church.
