Gale “Red” Brekken, 70

Gale “Red” Brekken age 70 of Tracy, MN died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Hospice House in Marshall, MN. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Tracy Lutheran Church with visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Tracy City Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.


Leo Petersen, 88

Leo “Pete” Petersen, 88, died Sunday, July 22, 2007 at his home in Heron, SD. Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 25 at Welter Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Senner officating. Burial was in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery with military rites by the Huron Veterans Council.

Leo George Petersen was born May 29, 1919, to Simon and Larsine (Nielsen) Petersen at Tracy, MN. He graduated from Tracy High School in 1938. He worked for the Tracy Ice & Transportation Company and the Tracy Bottling Company.

In January 1943 he entered the Army and served in Europe and in the Philippine Islands during World War II. He was discharged March 8, 1946.

He was employed by the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad as a locomotive fireman in Huron, SD.

On October 17, 1950, he married Doris Jones at Mankato, MN. After 36 years with the railroad, he retired in 1982 as a locomotive engineer.

He was a member of William Reaves American Legion Post 7, lifetime member of Foreest McMullen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1776, and lifetime member of the United Transporation Union.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife on December 12, 1999; four sisters, Hilda Neuman, Val Verven, Erna Patzer and Mary DeVetter; a brother, Karl Petersen; four brothers-in-law, Walter Patzer, Gerald DeVetter, John Neumann and Tim Berven; and a sister-in-law, Nellie Petersen.
