Gale “Red” Brekken, 70

Gale “Red” Brekken age 70 of Tracy, MN died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the Hospice House in Marshall, MN. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the Tracy Lutheran Church with visitation held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gale T. “Red” Brekken was born July 10, 1937 to Harold and Tryn (Harms) Brekken in Clara City, MN, Chippewa County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and in 1946 moved with his family to Tracy, MN, where his father established Brekken Implement Company. Red attended Clara City and Tracy Public Schools, graduating from Tracy High School. He then attended St. Olaf College and Mankato State University before enlisting in the U. S. Army. Following his Honorable Discharge Red returned to Tracy and continued to serve in the Minnesota National Guard.

Over the years Red worked for his father at the implement business, Homera of Tracy for over sixteen years, at the Tracy American Legion Serviceman’s Club and drove School Bus for the Tracy Public Schools for many years. Red was active in his community in many ways. He was a member of Tracy Lutheran Church, where he was very active as an usher and with the radio broadcasts. Red was also a member of the Tracy American Legion Post #173 for thirty one years, where he held office as Post Commander and served on the Honor Guard. He retired from the Minnesota National Guard in Tracy with twenty two years of service and also served on the “Chain Gang” for Tracy High School Football for twenty two years. However what he always cared for the most was his driving school bus and the children under his care, especially the Rainbow Preschool Program.

His hobbies included sports of any kind, reading, walking and driving around his home town of Tracy. On Saturday, July 28, 2007 Red died at the Hospice House of Marshall, MN at the age of 70.

Red is survived by his two brothers, Carol (Muriel) Brekken of Zumbrota, MN and Duane (Carol) Brekken of Maplewood, MN; six nieces and nephews; fifteen great nieces and nephews and many friends.

His parents and one infant brother, Harold G. Brekken preceded him in death.

Interment will be at the Tracy City Cemetery with the Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handling the arrangements.


Gustav Moline, 92

Funeral services were held today, Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN for Gustav Vincent Moline. Rev. Arlen Foss officiated. Organist was LaDean Lang, with Heidi Winter as soloist.

The pallbearers are his grandchildren, Cristene Klappenbach, Libia Johnson, Rob Moline, Chad Moline, Julie Dahlhoff, John Moline, Tim Moline, Erin Moline, Jeff Moline, Chris Moline, Brian Moline, Jamie Jensen, Ryan Moline, Daniel Moline, Caitlin Williams, and Michael Williams.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Swan, Charles Nelson, Clarence Eich, Luverne Carlson, Les Anderson, Stan Dahlgren, Harry Nystrom and Gerald Buys.

Vince Moline was born on February 6, 1915 to Gustav and Eleanor Nystrom Moline in Lake Sarah Twsp., Murray Co., MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended Dist. 101 Country School in Lake Sarah Twsp. On June 6, 1943 he and Sylvia Nelson were married at Hoiland Lutheran Church in rural Garvin, MN. Following their marriage they lived and farmed on the Moline family farm. They retired in 1977 and moved to Slayton, MN in 1980. Vince and Sylvia wintered in Arizona for many years. In 2004 he became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Slayton. Vince passed away on August 11, 2007 at the Murray County Memorial Hospital in Slayton, MN at the age of 92. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served on the Property and Management Committee and was active in church activities in his younger years. He also served as a supervisor on the Lake Sarah Township Board, on the District 101 School Board and was a past director on the Murray County Co-op Oil Company Board. Vince enjoyed farming, woodworking, gardening, electronics, collecting farm toys and memorabilia.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia of Slayton, MN; six children and their spouses, Jerry and (Irene) Moline of Slayton, MN, SueAnn Johnson of Anchorage, AK, Robert “Bob” and (Wanda) Moline of Garvin, MN, Russell Moline of Lakeland, FL, James “Jim” Moline of Marshall, MN and Janis and (Bill) Williams of Westminster, CO; sixteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and cousin and lifelong best friends, Harry and Laverne Nystrom. He is preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Hildur, Martha and Evelyn.

Interment was in Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.

The Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton is assisting the family with arrangements.
