Morris Nielsen, 60

Morris E. Nielsen, age 60, of Worthington, died Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at the Avera-McKennan Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

He was born January 23, 1947, in Tracy, to Walter and Elizabeth (Jarvis) Nielsen. Morris attended elementary school in Revere. He later attended Walnut Grove High School and Pipestone Vocational School. Morris entered the United States Army and served his country in Germany as a cook during the Vietnam War.

Morris married Lynn Lenz on January 25, 1969, in Tracy. After their marriage, the couple lived in Fulda. In 1978, they moved to Worthington where Morris worked at Super Value, which later became County Market, as a meat cutter for over 24 years. Due to health reasons, Morris retired in 1994.

He was a member of American Lutheran Church, in Worthington. He enjoyed hunting, reading, wood working and sports, especially watching the Minnesota Vikings.

Morris is survived by his wife, Lynn Nielsen, Worthington; two daughters, DeAnn (Dave) Kirlin, Avoca; and Dawn Torres, Worthington; four grandchildren, Wyatt and Jacob Kirlin, Elena Viscarra and Mariano Torres; mother, Elizabeth Nielsen, Lamberton; sister, Betty (Donnie) Halvorson, Blue Earth; and an aunt, Isabell Mueller, Lamberton.

He was preceded in death by his father; son, Corey, in 1969 and a brother, Edward.

A memorial services was held on Monday, February 5, 2007 at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington, officiated by Rev. Mike Zaske.

Dingmann Funeral Home and Cremation Services, in Worthington, were in charge of the arrangements.


 

Joan Guerrieri, 68

Joan Guerrieri, age 68, passed away on January 28, 2007 at her home in Tampa, FL with her family by her side.

She was born in Tracy to Lillian and Art Thomas on August 16, 1938. She graduated from Tracy High School in 1956 and also reigned as Miss Tracy.

She is survived by her daughter Marcia (Guy) Chambers of Ely, MN; sons Joey and Cliff of Tampa, FL; sisters Twyla (Darrell) Crouse of Tacoma, WA; Cleone (Lloyd) Denzine of Mesa, AZ; Cynthia Moat of Lakeville, MN; Allyson Cammauf of Sioux Falls, SD.

Vernice Springer, 87

Vernice Evelyn Springer passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, NV. She was 87 years old.

Vernice was born on November 3, 1919 in Westbrook, MN to Reinhold and Dena Rath Ewy. She was a resident of California.

She was a homemaker and Lutheran by faith. Among her many interests were volunteering with Hospice at the thrift shop in Paradise, CA, member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Ninilchik, Alaska, sewing, crocheting, keeping her home immaculate, her green thumb with plants and traveling.

She was also know to her friends and family as “Brownie.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Wesley Ewy, husbands Mahlon Roy Heil and Floyd (Bo) Nelson Springer.

Survivors include her sons, Dennis Springer of Caldwell, ID, Don Heil of Needles, CA, Gary Heil of Austin, NV, and Rollin Springer of Paradise, CA; daughters Darla Peterson of Ninilchik, AK, Dyllone Robertson of Oldtown, Idaho; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Yankee Hill, CA.

Walton Funeral Home in Reno is in charge of arrangements.


 

Curtis Lange, 75

Curtis N. Lange, age 75, of Algona, IA, died on Thursday February 1, 2007, at the Algona Manor. Funeral services were held Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona, with Rev. Jon Dunbar officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Memory Gardens with military rites conducted by the Algona VFW Post 2451 and the Haag-Turner American Legion Post 90 of Algona.

Curtis Nelson Lange, the son of Herman and Ida (Nielson) Lange, was born on May 24, 1931, in Slayton, Minnesota. He attended country school and Tracy High School thru the 10th grade. He helped his father on the family farm and received his GED at a later date. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. On November 30, 1979, Curtis was united in marriage with Edna Danielsen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lotts Creek. Curtis farmed in the Tracy, Minnesota area until his marriage with Edna; he then worked at Snap-On Tools in Algona for 10 years, Algona Foods for 6 years, and did odd jobs from 1995 until 2005. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. Curtis enjoyed fishing, playing cards, collecting farm tractors, and visiting with friends and family. Curtis identified meeting Edna as the most important and most memorable thing that happened to him.

Mr. Lange is survived by his wife, Edna Lange of Algona; a son, Alan Lange of Hayfield, MN; five step-sons, Carl Danielsen of Florence, OR, Larry Danielsen and his wife Sharri of Fort Wayne, IN, Danny Danielsen and his wife Sandra of Algona, David Danielsen of Los Angeles, CA, and Bruce Danielsen of Mason City; two step-daughters, Jan Croker of Bode, and Diane Goldberg and her husband Mike of Los Angeles, CA; eleven step-grandchildren; ten step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sharon; and two brothers, Warren and Wesley Lange.

Mary Ankrum, 100

Mary D. Ankrum age 100 of Tracy, MN died Monday, February 05, 2007 at the Tracy Area Medical Services. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2007 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Tracy. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.

Mary Dolores Ankrum was born November 4, 1906 to Peter and Adelheide (Brecht) Ockenfels on a farm in Murray County near Avoca, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie, MN. Mary attended Country School District #46, northeast of Currie.

On July 1, 1929 Mary married Charles Ankrum at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and they made their home on a farm near Avoca for three years before moving to their farm south of Tracy, MN. They remained on the farm until 1974 when they retired and moved into Tracy.

She was a past member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a current member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy. Mary was a homemaker her entire life and enjoyed many interests around her home, such as, quilting, cooking, gardening, crocheting, watching TV, playing cards and loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

In the fall of 2006 Mary became a resident of the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. On November 4th, 2006 she enjoyed her 100th birthday party with a great many family and friends. On Monday, February 5, 2007 Mary died at the Sanford-Tracy Medical Services at the age of 100.

Mary is survived by her three daughters, Dorothy Drackley and Charlene (David) Lenertz, both of Tracy, MN and Arlys Ankrum of Slayton, MN; one son, Robert (Marianne) Ankrum of Tracy, MN; one son-in-law, Vernon Klaassen of Tracy, MN; seventeen grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; one great great grandson, Damien; one brother, Fritz (Francis) Ockenfels of Prescott Valley, AZ; one sister, Agnes Lynch of Minneapolis, MN; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Her parents, husband, Charles, two daughters, Mavis Amundson and Gail Klaassen, two sons-in-law, Harley Amundson and Teddy Drackley; six brothers, Reinhart, Paul, John, Matt, Joe and Tony, and five sisters, Cecelia, Elizabeth, Margaret, Rose and Kate preceded her in death.


Elizabeth Thomas, 87

Elizabeth J. Thomas age 87 of Tracy, MN died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy. A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at the Bethel Cemetery, Custer Township, rural Garvin, MN. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.

Elizabeth Jane Thomas was born December 24, 1913 to Jabes and Winnifred (Phillips) Thomas on a farm near Tracy, MN. She was baptized in the Christian faith and attended Tracy Public Schools, graduating from Tracy High School.

After high school she moved to the Twin Cities and went to night school for accounting and writing. She worked in hospitals in the kitchen and later as a nurses aid. She also worked for a large department store for seventeen years as a clerk and bookkeeper.

Elizabeth was baptized into the Baptist church in her adult life and was very active in her church. She taught Sunday School and took part in many of the ladies guild activities and also was very interested in Mission work.

In 1999 Elizabeth moved back to Tracy and in 2001 she became a resident of the Tracy Nursing Home. In 2006 she moved into the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy where she died Sunday, February 4, 2007 at the age of 87.

Elizabeth is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Her parents, three brother, two sisters-in-law and one niece preceded her in death.
