Adrian repeats as team wrestling champions

 

The Panther wrestling team was eliminated from the post-season with a 41-15 loss to Adrian in the section semifinal meet at Tracy Friday night.

The Panthers improved on last week’s loss to the Dragons 49-9 but could not beat them. Adrian went on to defeat Fulda/MCC (winners over Marshall) for the championship later in the evening.

The Panthers got wins from Zach Campbell, Erik Cooreman, Luke Prairie, Chad Cooreman and James Prairie and actually led the Dragons after six matches 12-9.

TMB opens girls’ hoop tournament at Luverne

The Panther girls begin post-season play Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Tracy/Milroy/Balaton, ranked seventh in the Section 3AA South Sub-Section, tips-off against No. 2 seed Luverne. The game is at 7 p.m. in Luverne. The winner advances to a Friday, March 2 game against either No. 3 Jackson County Central or No. 6 Martin County West.

Other opening Section 3AA South games Friday pair No. 1 Pipestone against No. 8 Windom, and No. 4 St. James with No. 5 Redwood Valley.

The Section 3AA South championship game is at Worthington Tuesday, March 6.

The South winner will face the Section 3AA North winner Friday, March 9, at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.


Panthers finish regular season with 47-35 loss to Pipestone

The Panther Boys’ Basketball team lost to Pipestone, at Pipestone, Tuesday night by a score of 47-35. The loss concluded Tracy/Milroy/Balaton’s regular season schedule with a record of 12-12. Pipestone’s season record is 11-10.

The game was very close in the first half with the halftime score 22-20 in favor of the Arrows. However Pipestone’s defense held the Panthers to only 15 second half points to gain the win.

Isaac Dolan led the Panthers in scoring with 11 points while Steve Paradis scored 8. The Panthers pulled down 26 rebounds to 32 for the Arrows, had 8 assists to 8, 7 steals to 5, 1 block to 1 and turned the ball over 13 times to 25 for the winners.

B-squad loses 52-36

The Panther B squad also lost to Pipestone Tuesday night 52-36.

The young Panthers were led in scoring by Brandon Kirk with 14 points, Bo Kirsh added 8, Walker Schaar 6 and Austin Buttman, Kane Zwaschka, Josh Swenhaugen and Chris Hansen all had 2 points each.

“The first half went well (T/M/B led 24-19) but the second half did not fare so well,” said Coach Bob Ladehoff. “We had trouble scoring. We were not 100% healthy and that hurt us. We put forth the needed effort but came up short.”
