Mary Coudron, 89

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary Coudron, 89, of Marshall, was held on Monday, December 22, 2008, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall.

Mary (Stassen) Coudron was born on January 6, 1919, in Minneota, to Michael and Alida (Claeys) Stassen.  She grew up on a bee and orchard farm near Minneota and graduated from Minneota High School.  Mary took a job for a local physician using her short-hand skills to record patient histories.  She later worked for the Minneota Bank. 

On April 2, 1945, she was united in marriage to August Coudron at St. Edward Catholic Church in Minneota.  The couple farmed and raised their family East of Marshall in Lyon County.  When the children were attending Holy Redeemer School, Mary worked at the school as an office assistant.  She later worked for the Lyon County Independent Newspaper, and for 11 years she worked at the Court House in the Office of the Registrar of Deeds. 

Volunteerism was very important to Mary.  She helped to establish the Weiner Memorial Thrift Shop where she continued to volunteer for several years.  She also volunteered at the Lyon County Food Shelf and belonged to the Catholic Daughters’ of America and the Holy Redeemer Ladies’ Guild.  Mary also loved history.  This passion was evident through her work in the Court House, and through her love of stamp and coin collecting.  She also enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, quilting for her grandchildren and tending to flowers.

Mary died on Thursday, December 18, 2008, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.  She is survived by her children; Paul (and Jill) Coudron of Dayton, OH, Philip (and Eunice) Coudron of Richmond, VA, Grace (and George) Seroka of Detroit, MI, Thomas (and Lynne) Coudron of Columbia, MO, 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and sisters Cecilia, Dorothy and Katherine. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband August, brother Harry and sister Helen.

Interment  followed the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. The Rehkamp – Horvath Funeral Home of Marshall handled the arrangements.


Glenna Fogelson, 90

Glenna A. Fogelson age 90 of Currie passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at the Colonial Manor in Balaton after an extended illness.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2008 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie, MN. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.   Email condolences may be sent via www.tracyareafuneralhome.com.  The Tracy Area Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. 

Glenna A. (Deslauriers) Fogelson was born August 23, 1918 to Oscar and Mamie (Connors) Deslauriers on the family farm north of Currie, Minnesota. She was baptized, received her first communion and was confirmed in Currie.  Glenna attended country school District 50 and later Catholic School in Currie. Glenna was united in marriage to Willard Fogelson on February 5, 1946 at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church. Glenna worked at the grocery store in Currie for a number of years.  Glenna and Willard moved to Garvin in 1967 when they purchased and operated the grocery store.  In 1986, they moved back to Currie where they resided during their retirement. In 2003, Glenna entered the nursing home in Balaton where she has resided since. 

Glenna was a member of the Auxiliary and prayer network in Currie and also the Currie Card Club.  She was very dedicated to her religion and prayer and enjoyed watching EWTN.  She also enjoyed playing pinochle, bingo, gardening, playing piano and spending time with friends and family; especially her grandchildren.

Glenna is survived by her six children: Linda (Larry) Bruns of Garvin, Doug of Currie, Dale (Mary) of Surprise, AZ, Bill (Dorothy) of Ivanhoe, Jerry (Pat) of Milroy, and Charles of Garvin; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.  Glenna was preceded in death by her parents; husband Willard; brother Gordon (Beatrice) Deslauries, sister Elaine (Lloyd) Bangasser; and infant son and infant daughter. 


Gary Gabel, 73

Services for Gary Gabel, 73, of Ivanhoe were held at Bethany-Elim Lutheran Church in Ivanhoe. Birk Funeral Home of Ivanhoe is in charge of the arrangements.

He died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at the Brookings Hospital in Brookings, S.D.

He was born March 8, 1935, in Lakota, Iowa, at his grandparents’ home to Roland and Alberdena (Rippintropp) Gabel.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Mary of Ivanhoe; his daughter Jennifer Halverson of Willmar; four grandchildren; his sister, Janice Burns of Arnolds Park, Iowa; and mother, Alberdena of Milford, Iowa.
