Hunter Javens, 9
Funeral services for Hunter Javens, 9, of Cottonwood, were held on Monday, February 25, 2008, at the Lakeview Public School in Cottonwood.
Hunter David Javens was born on February 25, 1998, in Marshall, to Marty and Rita (DesLauriers) Javens in Marshall. He was Baptized on April 5, 1998, at the Presbyterian Church in Milroy. Hunter attended school and was in the fourth grade at Lakeview Public School in Cottonwood when he, his brother Jesse, and two other students were killed in a tragic accident. Hunter was an animal lover. He enjoyed his horse, Toby, zoos, and reading about animals. He loved playing catch, drawing and following professional wrestling. Hunter also enjoyed clowning around and was very honest. He will be remembered as a happy young man who was always looking out for others with smiles and hugs for everyone.
Hunter is survived by his parents, Marty and Rita of Cottonwood, siblings Jeramiah (Susan) of Cottonwood, Damian (Mally) of Cottonwood, Samantha of Wood Lake, Scooter of Cottonwood and twin sister Sasha of Cottonwood, grandparents David and Shirley Javens of Cottonwood, Ralph and Joan DesLauriers of Tracy, Aunts and Uncles Cris and Alan Gilb of Marshall, Lori and Gregg Soupir of New London, Larry and Kim Javens of Green Bay, WI, Natalie and Tim Ankrum of Tracy, Terri Morton of Inver Grove Heights, Curt DesLauriers and Sue Dykma of Worthington, special friends Dan and Tracy Stacken of Marshall, cousins, classmates, and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by sister Stephanie Javens.
Interment followed the service at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Cottonwood. The Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home of Marshall handled the arrangements.


Jesse Javens, 13
Funeral services for Jesse Javens, 13, of Cottonwood, were held on Monday, February 25, 2008, at the Lakeview Public School in Cottonwood.
Jesse Joseph Javens was born on October 6, 1994, in Marshall, to Marty and Rita (DesLauriers) Javens. He was Baptized on December 23, 1994, at the Presbyterian Church in Milroy and Confirmed on November 19, 2006, at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Jesse attended Lakeview Public School and was in the seventh grade when he, his brother, Hunter, and two other students were killed in a tragic bus accident. Jesse loved sports and participated in baseball, football and basketball through the school. He also enjoyed hunting, riding dirt bikes and four wheelers, playing video games and drawing. Jesse enjoyed following professional wrestling on television. Jesse will be remembered as a young man who loved family members and friends and was always ready to give a hug.

Ellen Strand, 97
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Hope Lutheran Church in Grasston, MN for Ellen Strand. The service was co-officiated by Rev. Herman Bakker and Rev. Peter Rosenkvist. Music was provided by Rosanne Maas and Deb Menze.
Pallbearers were: Jennifer DeRuyck, Jeffrey DeRuyck, Jason DeRuyck, Jamie Feeney, Jodi Strand, Kristin Munger, Kimberly DeRuyck and Marnie Strand.
Ellen Clara Johanna Swan was born at home near Grasston, Minnesota, to Fred and Mary (Dahlin) Swan on July 24, 1910. She was the oldest of six children.
She was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Grasston.
Ellie went to normal training to be a teacher in Mora, MN. She taught eight grades in Morse School for eight years.
On July 24, 1937, Ellie was united in marriage to Sig Strand at the family’s home. They had two children, Mary Ellen and Fred.
Ellie’s favorite past-times included: crocheting, visiting with family and friends, holding grandchildren, admiring photographs, reading letters, and enjoying coffee and cookies.
Ellie passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2008. She lived for 97 1⁄2 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen (Dennis) DeRuyck of Milroy, MN and son, Fred (Sandy) Strand of White Bear Lake, MN; 8 grandchildren: Jennifer DeRuyck (Louie Gonzales), Jeff DeRuyck (Liz Biggs), Jason (Nicole) DeRuyck, Kris (Scott) Munger, Kim DeRuyck (Justin Haugen), Jamie (Kevin) Feeney, Jodi Strand and Marnie Strand; 8 great-grandchildren: Alyssa Becker, Jessica DeRuyck, Megan Gonzales, Ethan Gonzales, Trey Feeney, Ryan Gonzales, Ellie Feeney and Avery Munger; sister, Myrtle Telstad of Braham, MN; and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sig; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.
