Obituaries from the week of April 15, 2009

Marcelo Ribeiro

do Val, 62

Marcelo Ribeiro do Val, 62, born in Castelo, in the state of Espirito Santo, Brazil, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 1st, 2009 in the city of Victoria Brazil where he lived.

Marcelo fought a valiant fight against Leukemia.  He was a wonderful, loving person and a good friend. He knew how to enjoy life by traveling and meeting people.

Marcelo was a 1964/65 graduate of Tracy High School through the AFS program, (American Field Service) which is an American Foreign Exchange Student program. He lived with the Les and Dorothy Borner family during his senior year at Tracy High School. With his outgoing and friendly personality, he made many friends and was loved by his adopted family. Marcelo came to the United States knowing only the word “yes”! When he returned to Brazil, he opened an English language school.  He then branched out from there, starting several other businesses such as a chocolate factory, pepper farm and an import and export business. Marcelo was a visionary and knew how to manage business very professionally.

Marcelo’s greatest joy in life was his love and devotion to his family. He was very proud of his family and eager to share that fact with his friends and family alike. He was a great husband, dad, and grandfather. He left behind many who loved him.

Marcelo is survived by his wife Vera, two married sons, Andre and Anelise, Tiago and Priscila, and three grandchildren, Marianny, Vitor, and Henrique.

His American family continued contact through the years.  Les and Dorothy visited Marcelo and family in Brazil and Marcelo also returned to the United States.  Dorothy Holt of Sun City Arizona, Bob and Arlene of Chaska Minnesota, Bill and Cindy of Kihei, Maui Hawaii, and Sherri and Dave Johnson of Peoria Arizona, will deeply miss Marcelo.
