Margaret Anderson, 84

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at Tracy Lutheran Church for Margaret Anderson, age 84, of Tracy, MN.

Margaret Mae Anderson was born March 20, 1925 to Lloyd and Mae (Burnham) Anderson in Tracy, MN.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  She grew up on a farm south of Tracy and attended country school, before attended Tracy High School, graduating in 1942.

She went to work, as a nurse, at Tracy Hospital from 1942 until 1949, when she moved to Willmar, MN and worked at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar for two years.  Margaret then moved to Minneapolis, MN and began a career as a surgical technician at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.  After thirty five years Margaret retired in 1986 and moved back to Tracy the following year.  In 2001 she became a resident of the Tracy Nursing Home and moved to Prairie View Healthcare Center in 2006.

She was a member of Tracy Lutheran Church and over the years had been active in the church women’s groups and circle.  She enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world, reading anything that was of interest and had been a member of several card clubs while living in the Twin Cities.  She also enjoyed time spent with her nieces and nephews over the years.

On Saturday, May 9, 2009 Margaret died at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy at the age of 84.

Margaret is survived by her one sister, Marie Sanow of Tracy, MN; one niece, Donna (George) Questad of Crooks, SD; two nephews, Ronald (Bonnie) Sanow of Brainerd, MN and David (Theresa) Sanow of Lewiston, MN; four great nieces and nephews, and one great great nephew.

Her parents, and one brother-in-law, Fred Sanow preceded her in death.

Bertha Keil, 95

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 for Bertha Anna Wixon Keil at the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN.  Rev. Kerry Boese officiated the service.  The organist was Dianne Johnson with special music by Misse Swanson.  The pallbearers were her grandchildren.

Bertha Keil was born on April 10, 1914 in Milroy, Minnesota to John and Minnie Fredericks Gilb.  She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Tracy, MN. 

On December 16, 1933 she and Forrest Wixon were married in Tracy, MN.  Following their marriage they farmed near Russell, Lynd, Tracy, Walnut Grove, Lake Wilson, and Slayton, MN before moving to a farm in Leeds Township, Murray County, MN. From 1971 to 1980 Bertha worked as a nurse’s aide at the Slayton Manor.  Forrest passed away on December 4, 1981.  Bertha remained on the farm following Forrest’s death. 

On October 31, 1987 she and Roy Keil were married at the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley.  Following their marriage they spent summers in Lake Wilson, MN and Deer River, MN and wintered in Texas.  Roy passed away on September 3, 2003.  Following Roy’s death Bertha spilt her time between her home and her daughter, Daryl’s home.

Bertha passed away on May 9, 2009 at the Murray County Hospital in Slayton at the age of 95. 

She was a member of the Hadley Lutheran Church.  Bertha also was a member of the Lake Wilson VFW Auxiliary.  Bertha enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, visiting over coffee, traveling, cooking, baking, gardening, fishing, and playing cards.

Survivors include her six children and their spouse, Forrest and Alice Wixon of Pierre, SD, Ronald and Barb Wixon of Milroy, MN, Terrance and Randi Wixon of Brandon, SD, Dierdre and Ron Garrels of Huron, SD, Deanna and Douglas Chapman of Hills, MN, and Daryl and Mike Johnson of Lake Wilson, MN, one daughter in-law, Clarice Wixon of Hartford, SD, 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Violet Hook of Canby, MN, Martha Triplet of Tracy, MN, Bernice Ellingson and her husband, Leland of Tracy, MN, and Betty Bornitz and her husband, Lowell of Tracy, MN, four sister in-laws, Florence Lorenz of Bertha, MN, Louella Gilb of Garvin, MN, Donna Davis of Marshall, MN, and Rachel Kaczrowski of Marshall, MN,  and one brother in-law, William Wixon of Marshall, MN and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband’s, Forrest Wixon, and Roy Keil, son, Carroll Wixon, three brothers, Ernest, Donald, and Raymond Gilb, three sisters, Alma Gilb, Louise Lamb, and Leona Smith Veldhuisen.
