Dorothy Grunden, 92

Dorothy F. Grunden, of Walnut Grove passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.  Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009 at the Church of Christ in Lamberton.  

Dorothy F. Grunden was born Feb. 6, 1916 on the family farm in Springdale Township to John and May (Henry) Jackson.  She graduated from Walnut Grove High School. 

On June 8, 1935, Dorothy was united in marriage to Leonard P. Grunden. Dorothy lived her entire life in the Walnut Grove area.  Since the summer of 1985, Dorothy walked around the Walnut Grove area early every morning.  She was a member of the Church of Christ in Lamberton and was active in the ladies’ circle and with Bible study.  Dorothy enjoyed traveling all over the United States, crocheting, ceramics, gardening – especially flower gardening, and putting puzzles together.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and especially her great-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by her children: James (Kay) Grunden of Remsen, IA, Ronald (Katherine) Grunden of Copperas Cove, TX, Larry Grunden of Rochester, MN, Arthur (Jane) Grunden of Sun Prairie, WI, & Bonnie (John) Pagel of Jamestown, ND; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister Gladiolia Hanish of Jeffers; and numerous other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Leonard; five sisters; two brothers; two infant grandsons; and one great-grandson.  Special thanks to Alan and Mary Grunden for all the extra special care for their grandmother.
