Jennie Haney, 92

Jennie Haney age 92 of Tracy, MN died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at Sanford-Tracy Medical Center.  Services were held Monday, June 29, 2009 at Tracy United Methodist Church.

Jennie Haney was born August 26, 1916 to Eltjo and Kate (Dilly) Visker in Little Rock, IA, Lyon County.  As a young girl, her family moved to White, SD in 1925 and she attended country school. 

On June 12, 1934 Jennie married Harry Haney in Slayton, MN and they made their home on a farm near Lake Shetek in Murray County.  In 1950 they moved into Tracy, MN where they continued to live the rest of their lives.  Jennie was a homemaker and mother of six, who also worked along side her husband on the farm.

She was a member of the Church of Christ in Tracy and was baptized on August 19, 1932 in Lake Shetek when she joined the church.  Jennie enjoyed sewing, embroidery, baking, and loved to go fishing.  “The Coffee Grandma”, is what Jennie will always be lovingly remembered as by her many family.  She had coffee and sweets everyday at her home for many years that continued even in her later years, after she had entered the nursing home. 

In 2007 Jennie became a resident of the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.  On Wednesday, June 24, 2009 Jennie died, surrounded by her loving family, at the Sanford-Tracy Medical Center at the age of 92.

Jennie is survived by her one son, Allen Haney of Tracy, MN; two daughters, Harriet (George) Reese and Lorraine (Orwill), both of Tracy, MN; twenty eight grandchildren, over 70 great grandchildren; more than forty great great grandchildren; one sister, Tena Quigley of Tracy, MN; three brothers, John (Joyce) Visker and Jans (Mabel) Visker of Tracy, MN and Joe (Evelyn) Visker of Coatsville, IN; one brother-in-law, Vernon Sanow Sr. of Tracy, MN; and many, many more relatives and friends.

Her parents, husband, Harry, infant son, John, two daughters, Jeanette Rykhus and Katherine Sanow, one grandson, Kenneth Rykhus, four granddaughters, Shirley Haney, Kelly Sanow, Mary Jo Wigen, and Elaine Haney, one brother, Henry Visker, and four sisters, Grace DeBlieck, Dorothy Kruger, Marie Smith and Fannie Quigley, all preceded her in death.

Duane B. Shea, 82

Duane B. Shea, age 82 of Walnut Grove passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Sanford Tracy Medical Center following a long illness.  Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, July 1 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Walnut Grove.

Duane Shea was born November 14, 1926 at Lime Creek, MN to Emmit and Mary (Hogan) Shea.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith, and attended country school at Lime Creek. 

On April 7, 1948 Duane was united in marriage to Virene Knakmuhs at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Walnut Grove.  Duane served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during WWII.  He worked his whole life as a welder, farmer, and tree trimmer.  Duane loved gardening, and could fix anything.  He was a member of the Westbrook VFW and the Lake Benton American Legion.  Duane spent his time playing Pinochle and King’s Corners, and loved making wooden toys and jewelry boxes.

Duane is survived by his wife Virene of 61 years of Walnut Grove; children: Shirley (Gary) Serie of Lake Benton, MN, Bernard (Becky) Shea of Alexandria, MN, and Donald Shea of Spring Lake Park, MN; sons-in-law Bruce Fox of Marshall, MN, and Denis VanDeWiele of Katy, TX; 7 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Emery (Agnes) Shea of Morris, MN; and sister-in-law Fidilis Shea of Benson, MN.  He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters Nancy VanDeWiele and Barbara Fox; brother Ambrose Shea; and sister Leonessa Olson.

Interment is in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Walnut Grove.  The Walnut Grove Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.  Online condolences may be sent at www.walnutgrovefuneralhome.com
