Beatrice Schons, 89

Funeral services were held on Friday, September 25, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy for Beatrice A. Schons, age 89 of Tracy.

Beatrice Agnes Schons was born December 15, 1919 to Daniel and Louella (Ford) Foley in Tracy, MN, Lyon County.  She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy.  Beatrice attended Country School District #23 in Lyon County and District #24 in Redwood County, before attending Tracy High School, where she graduated in 1938.

On November 13, 1940 Beatrice married Lawrence Schons at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and they made their home on a farm near Milroy, MN and then near Vesta, MN, for a short time.  When her husband entered the military in 1941 and was stationed in Texas and then Georgia, Beatrice went with him and lived on the base.  In the fall of 1946 they returned to a farm north of Tracy, where they lived until her husband’s retirement in 1983 and moved into Tracy.  In 1997 Beatrice moved into the Twin Circle Apartments in Tracy and remained there until 2008.

Beatrice was a housewife and worked outside the home for a short time in the Vesta Post Office when they were first married.  She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was very active in the Catholic Church Women’s groups, member of the Catholic Daughter’s, Alter Guild, served as an Eucharistic Minister and led many Rosary’s over the years.  She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, bingo, playing cards with her family and friends and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

In October of 2008 Beatrice became a resident of the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.  On Tuesday, September 22, 2009 Beatrice died at the Sanford-Tracy Medical Center at the age of 89.

Beatrice is survived by her one daughter, Kathryn (Gordon) Wille of Lamberton, MN; two sons, Thomas (Josephine) Schons of Troutville, VA and Richard Schons of Marshall, MN; nine grand children; thirteen great grand children; one sister, Phyllis Tanghe of Marshall, MN; two brothers, Robert Foley of New Ulm, MN and James (Virginia) Foley of Slayton, MN; two sisters-in-law, Sadie Foley of Luverne, MN and Terri Foley of Minneapolis, MN; nieces, nephews and many friends. 

Her parents, husband, Lawrence, two brothers, Frank and Maurice, one sister, Mary (Edward) Lenertz, one sister-in-law, Edith Foley and one brother-in-law, Ernest Tanghe preceded her in death.

Interment was at the Calvary Cemetery in Tracy.  The Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy handled the arrangements.
