Isidore Joseph "Bud" Baumann, 89

Isidore Joseph “Bud” Baumann, formerly of Tracy, passed away at the age of 89.  Funeral services were held on Monday, October 12, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savage, MN.  Burial was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, with military honors.  

Bud was born on February 17, 1920 to John and Mary (Nachtmann) Baumann in Springfield, MN.  He married Dolores Liebswager on August 6, 1942 in Milroy, MN.  After their marriage, they moved to Fort Sill, OK where Bud was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1941 through 1945 during WWII.  In 1945, they moved to the family farm in Milroy, MN and then to Tracy, MN in 1958.  Bud was Civil Defense Director for Lincoln and Lyon Counties for 22 years.  He retired in 1985.  He enjoyed his time with his family, fishing, woodworking, music and telling his great stories.  On August 6, 2009, Bud and Dolores celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.  

On October 6, 2009, with his wife by his side, Bud touched the face of God and now rests peacefully in His arms.

Bud is survived by his loving wife Dolores, Burnsville, MN; children: Jerry Baumann, Walnut Grove, MN; Jill (Keith) Anderson, Minneota, MN; Roger Baumann, Vesta, MN; Peggy (Bill) Manther, Apopka, FL; Marcie Baumann, Burnsville, MN; and Maxine (Rick) Menze, Burnsville, MN; grandchildren: Troy, Buddy, Karin, Krista, Bryan, Christy, Carrie, Cathy, Kris, Rob and Sarah; great-grandchildren: Andy, Maddie, Matt, Jake, Sam, Danny, Grant, Brody and Brendan; brother Art (Alice) Baumann, Comfrey, MN and many, many nieces and nephews.

Bud was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Mary; brothers: Leo, John, Pete and Ray; sisters: Jo, Rose, Ann, Betty and Dolly; daughter-in-law Pat Baumann; grandson Michael Anderson; granddaughter Teresa Baumann and niece Phyllis Foster.

He will always be loved and will be greatly missed by us all.

 

 

Vernon Charles Schmidt, 84

A memorial service for Vernon Schmidt, 84, was held Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Ca.

Born in 1925 at Wood Lake, Minnesota, Vern was one of 12 children of Philip and Amalie Schmidt.    He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Posen Township and graduated from Mankato Business School.

Vern and Pauline Petersen were married at Tracy Lutheran Church, November 2, 1947.  Vern, along with his wife, were owners for many years of the Friendly Inn Café and Mobile Service Station before moving to Lakewood in 1963. 

He was a member of the Tracy Junior Chamber of Commerce and served as a volunteer fireman with the Tracy Fire Department. 

Vern was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church since his arrival to the Southern California area.  He was a beloved member of school staff at the Long Beach Unified School District until his retirement after 25 years of service. 

Vern was a life-long avid hunter, enjoyed singing barbershop music and after retirement, took up the game of golf. 

Vern is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Pauline, and daughters: Christine (Erik) Sanburg and Laurel (Steven) Sykora.  He was blessed to have 3 granddaughters, Jennifer (Michael) Foti, Heather and Holly Sykora, as well as 2 great granddaughters, Cecilia and June Foti, all of Southern California.  He is also leaving behind in Minnesota,  sisters Hilda Preuss, and Joanne Willhite;  brothers Martin, Loren, Leroy, Ordean, Edgar and Philip Jr.

He was preceded in death by his sister  Olena, and brothers, Arnold and Arthur. 

 

 

Gordon B. Vik, 82

Gordon B. Vik, age 82 of Tracy passed away Monday, October 5, 2009 at Seasons Hospice in Redwood Falls.  Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Presbyterian Church in Redwood Falls.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be in the Ellsborough Cemetery near Balaton, MN at a later date.  Online condolences may be sent via www.tracyareafuneralhome.com.  The Tracy Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gordon B. Vik was born November 5, 1926 on the family farm in Current Lake Township, near Balaton, MN to H.G. and Agnes (Mickelson) Vik.  He attended country school district 45.  Gordie left school after the 10th grade.  He worked several jobs until he started on the railroad.  Gordon retired after 36 years.  In 1994, Gordie moved into O’Brien Court, where he has resided since.  His passion for trains continued until his death.  Gordie was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor that would make you laugh.  No matter how much pain he was in, he always found a smile for you.  He had a special place in his heart for family and friends.  He loved going to Las Vegas on vacation with friends.  Gordie also enjoyed going to the lake in Glenwood until his health problems made him give it up.  He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf.  Gordie left his mark on family and friends in his own quiet way.  He will be missed.

Gordie is survived by his siblings: Marvin (Lois) Vik of Farmington, Joyce Kreun of Ramsey, MN, James (Jeanie) Vik of Redwood Falls and Maxine Robbins of Tracy; good friend Alice DeBaere of Marshall; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
