Dorothy Howe, 88

Dorothy M. Howe age 88 of Tracy, MN died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at the Mercy Medical Center/Northern Iowa Hospital in Mason City, IA.  Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, and continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Tracy City Cemetery. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy is handling the arrangements.

Dorothy Marion Howe was born September 13, 1921 to William and Martha Schuck in Lamberton, MN, Redwood County. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and attended Lamberton Public Schools, graduating from Lamberton High School.

On June 29, 1940 Dorothy married Clarence Howe in Wanda, MN. They lived in Willmar, MN for 18 months, before moving to the Twin Cities during WWII, where she went to work the Honeywell Corporation in their defense plants. After the war they moved to Tracy, MN where she was a homemaker and mother. She then went to work for the Tracy Nursing Home until her health required her to retire.

Dorothy was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy and very active in the church women’s groups, and also taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She enjoyed sewing and was also a member of the Tracy American Legion Auxiliary.

In 2005 Dorothy became a resident of the Manly Nursing Home in Manly, IA, to be near her son. On April 4, 2010 Dorothy died at the Mercy Medical Center/Northern Iowa Hospital in Mason City, IA at the age of 88.

Dorothy is survived by her one son, Jerry G. Howe of Manly, IA; granddaughter, Sarah (Jeff) Ruley of Eagle Lake, MN; two great granddaughters, Mikella and Karenna; one sister, Ruth Anderson of Tracy, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.

Her husband, Clarence, her parents, daughter-in-law, Linda, one brother and one sister preceded her in death.

 

David  McFarland, 91

Funeral service for D.C. “Pat” McFarland, 91, of Marshall, were held on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall.  Interment followed the service at the Marshall Cemetery.  Military Rites provided by U.S. American Legion Post 113 of Marshall.

David Cullen McFarland Jr. was born on October 11, 1918, in Marshall, to David C. McFarland Sr. and Martha (Ladwig) McFarland.  He attended country school district 98 and graduated from Marshall High School in 1933 at the age of 15.  He subsequently worked on the family farm and from 1942 – 1947 he served in the U.S. Army Air Corp.  After his service, he attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with a business degree.  Pat served from 1947 – 1958 in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lt. Colonel. 

On December 20, 1949, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Vitcak.  He was employed by Travelers Insurance Company and in 1954, returned to Marshall and started the McFarland Company.  In 2004, he celebrated 50 years of business in Marshall.  Pat was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, the Masons, the Shriners, American Legion Post 113 of Marshall, the VFW, the Marshall Chamber of Commerce, and in 2003 was the recipient of an Honorary Lifetime Membership award from the SMSU Alumni Association. 

Pat died of congestive heart failure on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall. 

He is survived by his sisters Ruth Byers Carlstrom of Urbandale, IA, and Kathleen Brown of Chaska and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Martha, his wife Dorothy, a sister Shirley Rostomily and an infant brother, James.

Memorials preferred to Prairie Home Hospice of Marshall.  Arrangements were handled by Rehkamp & Horvath Funeral Directors of Marshall.

 

Robert Stoppel, 74

Robert Alan Stoppel age 74 of Currie, MN, formerly of Glenwood, IA, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 at the Murray County Hospice House in Slayton, MN.  A visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 PM Thursday, April 8, 2010 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, followed by a graveside service in the Hoiland Cemetery, rural Tracy, at 3:15 PM.

Alfred Voge, 83

Alfred E. Voge age 83 of Tracy, MN died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton, MN.  Services were held on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Tracy Lutheran Church in Tracy, MN. Interment will be in the Tracy City Cemetery later this spring. The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled the arrangements.

Alfred Elmer Voge was born March 14, 1927 to Herman A. and Marie L. (Haseleu) Voge in Springfield, MN, Brown County.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Springfield and attended country school in his youth.  He later attended Springfield High School, graduating in 1942.

On November 25, 1951 Alfred married Betty J. Harden and they made their home on a farm near Springfield, until the mid 1960’s, when they moved to a farm near Walnut Grove, MN, where they raised their family.  In the late 1970’s they moved to Tracy, MN and Alfred went to work as a hired hand on the Robert Syverson farm for many years.

Alfred was a member of the Tracy Lutheran Church and he enjoyed the outdoors, farming, gardening, hunting, bird watching, playing cards and especially visiting with family and friends.

He moved into the Lakeview Estates in Balaton, MN in 2008 and on March 30, 2009 he became a resident of the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Balaton, where he died Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the age of 83.

Alfred is survived by his three sons, Clifford Voge of Minneapolis, MN, Kim (Melissa) Voge of Edgerton, MN and Trent (Rachel) Voge of Big Lake, MN; five daughters, Charlotte (Mark) Packard of Winter Haven, FL, Corinne (Steve) Olson of Westbrook, MN, Connie (Pete) Hanson of Princeton, MN, Sandra Illg of St. James, MN and Susan (Mark Meyer) Johnson of Annandale, MN; fourteen grandchildren, Brandon Shubert, Michael and Ronda Olson, Shannon and Pete Hanson Jr., Bruce Wahl, Krista Illg, Dylan, Derek and Kya Voge, Zachary, Courtney and Katrina Voge and Mark Meyer Jr.; four great grandchildren, Alexis, Marcos, Landon and Natalia; two sisters, Arlene (Norman) Krebs of Sleepy Eye, MN and Margie (Chuck) Schwartz of Tracy, MN; nieces, nephews and friends.

His wife, Betty, his parents, one son-in-law, Bradley Shubert, one brother, Alvin (Tina) Voge, two sisters, Edna (Elmer) Kettner and Mary Lou Schubbe, and one half-brother, Gerald Kettner preceded him in death.
