Wilma Herder, 86

Wilma M. Herder age 86 of Walnut Grove passed away Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Sanford Tracy Medical Center.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at First English Lutheran Church in Walnut Grove.    Interment is in the Johnsonville Cemetery in Johnsonville Township.  Online condolences may be sent via www.walnutgrovefuneralhome.com.  The Walnut Grove Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Wilma Mae Herder was born on February 4, 1924 in Walnut Grove, MN to Samuel and Bertha (Klucking) Nelson.  She graduated from the Walnut Grove High School.  In 1942 she was united in marriage to Gustave Herder.  Gustave and Wilma took over the “homeplace” in Johnsonville Township where they farmed and attended Johnsonville Lutheran Church until Gustave’s death in 1960.  Wilma and her children then moved to Walnut Grove where she became a member of the English Lutheran Church.  For more than 35 years, she worked at Western Community Action.  Wilma had a great interest in farming, gardening, volunteering, and watching sports; especially baseball and football.  She also enjoyed talking on the phone and spending time with family.

Wilma is survived by her children: Carol (David) Arnt of Woodbury, MN, Janice Iverson of Hastings, MN, Joel (Melanie) Herder of Breckenridge, MN; daughter-in-law Barb Herder of Sioux Falls, SD; sister Eleanor Kuehl of So. St. Paul, MN; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Gustave; son Jerry; brothers: Kenneth, Lester, Walter, and Arthur; and sister Grace.  Wilma will truly be missed by her family and friends.

 

 

Robert Skramstad, 73

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Skramstad, 73, of Tracy, formerly of Marshall, were held on Monday, April 19, 2010, at First Lutheran Church in Marshall.  Interment followed the service at the Marshall Cemetery.  Military Rites performed by U.S. American Legion Post 113 of Marshall.

Robert Allen “Bob” Skramstad was born on April 3, 1937, in Montevideo, to Vern and Ann (Tollefson) Skramstad.  When he was young, he moved with his parents to Marshall.  Bob graduated from the Marshall High School in 1955.  He attended St. Olaf and the University of Minnesota before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served from 1957 – 1960.  After his honorable discharge, he attended the Rapid City School of Mines where he graduated in 1964 with a degree in Geological Engineering.  Bob worked for the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Department for over 30 years as a civilian.  He lived in Washington DC for a few years, then spent over 25 years living in Stennis Space Center, MS.  He retired in 1995 and moved back to Marshall to be with his family.  He enjoyed reading all types of books, including yearly almanacs, and studying maps of the world. Bob was a member of the Golden Kiwanis. Bob also enjoyed coffee at Mike’s Café.  He also loved spending time with his family, especially his brothers Galen and Phil, and he loved his church.  Bob moved to the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy in 2005.  He received wonderful care from the nurses and staff at the center, his nieces and nephews, and family friend Terri Miller.

Bob died on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.

He is survived by his brother Phil (and Ellen) Skramstad of Marshall, nieces Cathy (Skramstad) Bauer of St. Paul and Jenna Miller of Marshall, nephews Michael Skramstad of St. Louis Park, Ryan Skramstad of Sedalia, MO, James Skramstad of Minneapolis and Uncle John (and Dorothy) Skramstad of Fergus Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Diane Skramstad, and brother Galen Skramstad.

The Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home of Marshall handled the arrangements.
