Edward Erickson, 65

Edward E. Erickson age 65 of Walnut Grove passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 16 at Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy.  Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.  Inurnment will be in Lake Belt Township Cemetery near Ceylon.  Online condolences may be sent at  The Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Edward E. Erickson was born December 12, 1944 in Estherville, Iowa to Stanley and Marie (Carlsen) Erickson.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Ed graduated from Ceylon High School in 1963, and from Jackson Vocational School in 1967.  He served in the US Marine Corps from 1963-1967, and was stationed in the Phillipines for 18 months.  Ed was united in marriage to Karen Schultze on August 17, 1968 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilbert.  He worked for Alliant Energy from 1968 until his retirement in 2007.  Ed was a member of the Walnut Grove Fire Department for 20 years and served as chief from 1988-2001.  He was a past member of the Walnut Grove Community Club and Lions Club.  Ed was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Tracy, serving in numerous offices within the church and doing volunteer work.  He loved woodworking, helping his children and grandchildren with projects, and spending time with his grandchildren. 

Ed is survived by his wife Karen of 42 years; children Michael (Melinda) of Sioux Falls, SD, Nancy Pavelko of Sioux Falls, SD, and Julie of Grantsburg, WI; 2 grandsons Brandon and Conor Pavelko; brothers and sisters: Renee (Danial) St. John of Fairmont, Sylvia (Don) Moore of Spencer, IA, David (Jan) of Red Wing, Selmer (Margaret) of Sleepy Eye, Judith (Dave) Schmitz of Surprise, AZ, Ellen (John) Peterson of  Mankato, Kathy (Marty) Bremer of Ceylon, MN, Kermit (Marlene) of Bemidji; step-mother DeEtta Erickson of Plymouth; step-siblings DeWayne (Ruth) Herbrandson of Phoenix, AZ, Patsy (John) Bode of Plymouth; mother-in-law Delores Schultze of Fairmont; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Maureen Blilie of Chaska, Roger (Gail) Schultze of Ceylon, Kevin (Kaye) Schultze of Ceylon, Terry (Myranda) Schultze of Hastings, Kris (John) Peterson of Jackson, Dennis (Gayle) Schultze of Bad Soden, Germany; and many other relatives and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Merlyn, step-brother Jim Herbrandson, and father-in-law Edwin Schultze.
