David Bowman, 85

David E. Bowman age 85 of Tracy formerly of Wayne County, Ohio entered eternal rest Thursday, September 16, 2010 in the Twin Cities, Minnesota.  A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Walnut Grove Funeral Home in Walnut Grove.  Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Funeral and committal services will be held later in the week in Orrville, Ohio.  Interment is in Paradise Cemetery in Greene Township, near Smithville, Ohio.  Online condolences may be sent at www.walnutgrovefuneralhome.com.  The Walnut Grove Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.  David’s family requests no flowers, and memorials are preferred to: Christian & Missionary Alliance Men, 300 S. David E. Bowman was born December 24, 1924 at the family home between Creston and Burbank, Ohio to Glenn and Mary (Barnard) Bowman.  He graduated from Burbank High School in 1942.  David joined the US Marine Corp in 1943 and served 2-1/2 years overseas with duty in New Caledonia, Guadalcanal, Midway, and campaigns in Guam and Iwo Jima.  He achieved the rank of Corporal and received the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Combat, Good Conduct, Expert Rifleman and Mortar Signalman awards. 

David was united in marriage to Dorothy Nussbaum on March 14, 1946 in Orrville, Ohio.  The couple was blessed with two children: Norman, who lives in Spain doing mission work with mission outreaches in the Ukraine, and Anna Jeanne in Minnesota who is a farm wife, piano teacher, and accompanist.  David was a successful Registered Holstein breeder for 44 years with cattle in foreign countries.  David was an experienced plumber and District Manager for Cargill Seed Company.  He enjoyed painting and writing poems when inspired. David loved singing in the church choir and was a tenor annually in the community choir, performing Handel’s Messiah which was his favorite. He was the Tracy Senior Center’s “Pancake Man,” and was instrumental in the restoration of the Historic Lamberton Blacksmith Shop.  David also spent many hours helping to build the Lamberton Community Center.  David was a member and served as trustee and deacon for the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches in Orrville and Wooster, Ohio, and also belonged to the Storden Baptist Church in Storden, Minnesota and Agapé Fellowship in Marshall, Minnesota.  David was a member of the National, State, and County Holstein Associations, and Farm Bureau. 

David is survived by a person close to his heart, Idella Snavely of Kidron, Ohio; his children Norman (Gwendolyn) Bowman of Barcelona, Spain and Anna Jeanne (Bruce) Flesner of Tracy; 8 grandchildren: Carl (Patti) Bowman of Itasca, IL, Natasha (Roberto) Serrano of Barcelona, Spain, Nathaniel (Jennifer) Bowman of Elgin, IL, Benjamin (Kristin) Bowman of Durham, NC, Sarah Flesner of Granite Shoals, TX, Lydia (David) McKay of Bellingham, WA, Daniel (Christina) Flesner of Bellingham, WA, and Reuben (Rebecca) Flesner of Bloomington, MN; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings: Ruth Phillips of Lake Junaluska, NC, Wilbur (Joan) Bowman of Los Alamos, NM, Thelma Dynes of Carmichael, CA; sister-in-law Marge Bowman of Creston, OH; foster sons Thomas Yoho of Marshal, NC, and Russell Yoho of Wooster, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy in 2005, brother Harold, nephew Robert, and brother-in-law Carlisle Phillips, Jr.

 

 

Monte Iversen, 65

Monte C. Iversen, age 65, formerly of Garvin, MN passed away Thursday, September 9, 2010 at his home in Pikeville, KY.  Funeral services were held Sunday, September 11, 2010 at the Little Creek Baptist Church in Pikeville, KY.  Interment was at the Bently Cemetery on Little Creek, with full military honors.

Monte C. Iversen was born January 3, 1945 in Tracy, MN to the late Carl and Ann (Ruschmann) Iversen.  He attended Garvin Elementary and Tracy High School.  At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Knox, KY.

Monte was united in marriage to Shirley Thornsbury of Pikeville, KY on November 2, 1963.  To this union was born three children, Brian, Monica and Cindy.

Monte worked for Caterpillar in Pikeville, KY as a partsman for nearly 30 years.  In May 1981 he joined the Old Regular Baptist Church.  There he served as a deacon, and in 1990 he answered the call from God to become a preacher.  Monte and Shirley devoted their lives to serving the Lord by comforting the sick and those in need.  Monte touched many lives in his ministry.  Even though he was suffering with cancer, he was a devoted servant of the Lord.  He was also a proud member of the D.A.V., Chapter 166 in Pikeville, KY.

Monte is survived by his wife Shirley and three children, Brian (Sherry) Iversen, Monica (Terry) Kinney, and Cindy (Jay) Akers all of Pikeville; five grandchildren, Rachel, Brock, Jared, Hunter and Cassidy; two brothers Chuck (Doris) Iversen of Detroit Lakes, Lanny (Nancy) Iversen of Tracy, and one sister Carla (Lester) Pemble of Walnut Grove; along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in deatah by his parenst and one brother, Gene (Ike) Iversen.


Alfred Miller, 91

Funeral services for Alfred F. Miller were held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy.  Interment was today, Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Woodville Cemetery in Waseca, MN.  The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled the arrangements.

Alfred Frank Miller was born December 6, 1918 to Frank and Lucy (Barnes) Miller in St. Charles, MN, Winona County.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended St. Charles Public Schools.  He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1938. 

On June 12, 1951 Alfred married Jeanette Hanson in Waseca, MN.  In 1941 Alfred went to work for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad, as a telegraph operator, and they moved to Tracy, MN in 1947.  After forty years of service he retired in May of 1981 and remained a resident of Tracy.

Alfred was a member of Tracy Lutheran Church and was an active member of the Tracy Senior Citizen’s Center.

In January of 2008 Alfred became a resident of the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, where he died Friday, September 17, 2010 at the age of 91.

Alfred is survived by his daughter, Mary (John) Podlesny of Iron River, WI; nieces, nephews and friends.

His wife, Jeanette, parents, Frank and Lucy Miller, one sister, Doris, one brother, Morris(Maurice), two nieces, Florence Moors and Bertha Haas preceded him in death.

 

Emma Reiter, 93

Mass of Christian Burial for Emma Reiter will be held at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. James Von Tobel officiating.    Interment is at Calvary Cemetery Currie, MN. 

Emma passed away peacefully at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine, MN on Monday, September 20, 2010 at the age of 93.

Von Buesing, 85

Buesing, Von C., age 85, of Rogers formerly of Tracy passed away on September 16, 2010. 

Mr. Buesing was a class of 1943 graduate of Tracy High School.  He was a Navy Submarine Veteran in WWII 1943-1949.  He served on the USS Sea Dog and was a member of the Mighty Mine Dodgers. 

He married Grace Margaret Tobin on November 10, 1947 in San Francisco.  Von and Grace returned to Minnesota following his service with the Navy.  Their marriage was blessed with 7 children.  Von farmed near Balaton, was a school bus driver and custodian at Balaton Public School.  After retiring from Balaton Public School, Von and Grace moved to Tracy and he worked as a grounds keeper at the Marshall Golf Course.  They lived in Tracy until just recently moving to Rogers. 

Von was a member of the American Legion and St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Von took his role as a neighbor seriously.  He helped with mowing, shoveling and loved sharing cookies and ice cream with the neighbor children.  He cherished the time spent with his family, and especially loved time with all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Martha; and siblings Arlene, Alvin and Wallace. 

Survived by wife of 62 years, Grace; children, Mike, Dan (Linda), Sandra (Rich) Glas, Jeanine (Don) Ryther, Charlie (Janie), Rebecca (John) Swanson, Lisa (Loren) DeMartelaere; grandchildren, Randi Jo, Jeff, Jason, Dana, Rachel, Chris, Ryan, Jennifer, LeAnne, Krista, Jessica and David; 8 great-grandchildren.  Also survived by siblings, Shirley Clark (Jerome Kleinsasser), Joyce (John) Goltz, Robert (Jan) Buesing; sister-in-law, Elaine (Charlie) Asman and many nieces, nephews and friends. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010 at St. Andrew Catholic Church 566 4th St. NW, Elk River.  Visitation 6-8 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 at Dare’s Funeral Home, Elk River, 805 Main St. NW (763-441-1212) with a prayer service and sharing time at 7 p.m.  A grave side service will take place at a later date at St. Mary’s Calvary Cemetery in Tracy.  Memorials preferred to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tracy or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
