Herman Balko, 98

Herman Balko age 98 of Tracy, MN died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy.  A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2011.  Interment will be in the Redwood Falls Community Cemetery.

Esther Hinz, 92

Funeral services for Esther Hinz of Tracy, MN were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 20, 2010 at Tracy Lutheran Church. The Interment was at the Bethel Cemetery, Garvin.  The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled the arrangements.  Online condolences may be placed at www.almliefh.com

Esther Della Hinz was born April 10, 1918 to Steve and Ethel (Mills) Fallert in Cambridge, IA.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.  When Esther was two years old her family traveled by Train and moved to Blue Earth, MN.  There she attended Country School District #72 in Fairbault County, before attending Blue Earth Public Schools, graduating from high school in 1936.

On May 25, 1938 Esther married Glen W. Hinz in East Chain, MN at the East Chain Lutheran Church.  In 1941 they moved to a farm near Lynd, MN and after five years they moved to farm near Amiret, MN.  In 1953 they moved into Amiret and Esther ran a pool hall until 1976.  That year they moved to Tracy, MN and she began working at the Christian Manor Nursing Home as a cook.  The last few years she worked as an activities director before her retirement in 1993.

Esther was a past member of the Lake Sarah Lutheran Church in Garvin and a current member of Tracy Lutheran Church, where in the past she had been active in the church women’s groups.  Glen and Esther enjoyed motorcycles and she was a lifetime member of the Roaring Lions Motorcycle Club and one of it’s founding members.  She also was active in the Tracy Senior Citizens Center, where she had served as secretary.  Esther also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, growing African Violets, baking and making jams and jellys, and playing cards, especially pinochle. 

In 2007 Esther became a resident of the Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy, where she died, surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at the age of 92.

Esther is survived by her two sons, Jerry (Lu) Hinz of Tracy, MN and Dennis (Tommie) Hinz of Amiret, MN; three grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends.

Her husband, Glen, her parents, and two sisters, Cleo (Herman) Olson and Blanche (Buck) Arndt preceded her in death.
