On June 30, 2011 Ann became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Slayton, where she died, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the age of 88.

Helen Sagmoen, 94

Funeral services for Helen Sagmoen were held at Lake Sarah Lutheran Church Garvin, MN on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Drake Snell officiating.  The organist was Mary Hauschild.  The pallbearers were her grandchildren.  Interment was at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.

Helen Sagmoen was born on March 26, 1917 to Harry Sr. and Dorothea Berg Freeburg in Redwood County, MN.  She attended country school in Murray County, south of Walnut Grove, MN.  She moved with her family to rural Slayton in 1931 and attended Slayton Public School, graduating in 1934.  Helen then completed a one-year Teacher Training course in Slayton.  She taught for seven years in three different rural one-room schoolhouses in Murray County.

On June 10, 1938 she and Percival “Percy” Sagmoen were married at Tracy, MN.  Following their marriage they farmed with his parents in Lake Sarah Township, until 1943.  They lived in various locations until 1947, when they returned to the family farm.  On January 1, 1963 they bought and operated Sagmoen’s Service at Valhalla Corner.  They retired in 1975 and made their home in Garvin, MN.  Helen became a part-time dispatcher with the Tracy Police Dept. and had to leave due to health related reasons.  In 1989 they moved to Slayton, MN.   Percy passed away on November 7, 1997.

Helen entered the Slayton Golden Living Center in November of 2003 and passed away there on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the age of 94.  She was a member of Lake Sarah Lutheran Church Garvin, MN.  Helen was always to be a teacher!  Be it her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, neighbor kids, or her Bible Study group.  Because she always had a great love for reading, she introduced others to the joy of reading.  Helen also kept her mind busy with her crafts, word puzzles, playing cards, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
