Dorothy Frisvold, 73

Dorothy Frisvold age 73 of Garvin, MN died Friday, October 28, 2011 at Sanford-Sioux Valley Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.  Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2011 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN.   Interment was in the Bethel Cemetery.  The Almlie Funeral Home of Tracy handled the arrangements.  Online condolences may be placed at www.almliefh.com

Dorothy Marie Frisvold was born June 17, 1938 to Kermit and Minnie (Klein) Pagel in the Tracy Hospital in Tracy, MN, Lyon County.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  Her family moved to the Dodge Center, MN area then to Ruthton, MN and settled near Garvin, MN. She graduated from Ruthton High School in 1957.  Dorothy then attended secretarial school in Minneapolis, MN and shortly after completing her degree, she moved to Washington D. C.

On September 26, 1959 Dorothy married Edward Bethune in Washington D. C., where they made their home. She worked as a secretary for the U. S. Military and also several positions within the District of Columbia.  She moved back to Garvin in the early 1960’s and on November 14, 1965 Dorothy married Marlin Frisvold at the Garvin Congregational Church.  They lived near Garvin on a farm for several years before moving into Garvin in 1968.  In June of 1975 Dorothy went to work for SSU in Marshall, MN as a secretary in the Social Science Department until her retirement in November of 2002.

She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Balaton, and the Genealogy Club.  Dorothy enjoyed reading, clipping newspaper articles, canning and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

On Friday, October 28, 2011 Dorothy died, surrounded by her loving family, at the Sanford-Sioux Valley Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 73.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Marlin Frisvold of Garvin, MN; three sons, Michael Bethune, Donald Bethune and Dale (Mary Kay) Frisvold, all of Garvin, MN; two daughters, Marlene (Jeff) Miller of Garvin, MN and Suzanne (fiancé, Kent Burch) Frisvold of Marshall, MN; three grandchildren, John Frisvold, Kathrine and Jessica Miller; one brother, John (Bonnie) Pagel of Jamestown, ND; nieces, nephews and friends.

Her parents, Kermit and Minnie Pagel, one infant brother and one infant sister preceded her in death.

 

Arlene Lewis. 94

Arlene Lewis, age 94, of Yankton, SD passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.  Funeral services were held on Friday, October 28 at the Walnut Grove Methodist Church.    Interment was in Walnut Grove Cemetery.  Online condolences may be sent at www.stephensfuneralservice.com.  Stephens Funeral Service - Walnut Grove Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. 

Arlene Elizabeth Lewis was born April 9, 1917, to Frank and Hattie (McCollister) Beebout in Columbia, Iowa.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith.  In 1920 her family moved to the Milroy, MN, area where she later attended country school and Milroy Public School. 

On October 1, 1935, Arlene married Lloyd Lewis in Redwood Falls.  They made their home on a farm south of Milroy.  After moving to another farm farther south of Milroy and living there for several years, they bought a farm in 1948 south of Walnut Grove.  In 1990 they sold the farm and moved into Walnut Grove.  Lloyd died on January 16, 1995.   Arlene continued to live there until 2003 when she moved to Yankton, South Dakota, to live closer to her sons.

For many years, Arlene was employed as a nurse at the Tracy Hospital.  

She is survived by her son, Donald (Linda) of Yankton, daughter Muriel (Ed) Cunningham of Cincinnati, granddaughter Kirsten of Covington, Kentucky,  as well as many nieces and nephews. 

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; her parents; one son, Kenneth, one sister, Maxine, and three brothers, Clint, Cleve, and Chester.
